Who has used them and what model do you have.

I've tried the flip and pitch model for punching last year. It was OK for me as I'm not much of a power fisherman and didn't grow into it. I've developed into a more finese fisherman and like lighter power/weight equipment so I no longer use it.

Quality wise, it's a solid piece of machine. The fixed drag and no moving line guide minimize component counts and maintainence. If you like heavy equipment for heavy duty power fishing, you may like it.

It is a bit ugly looking though

I used the flippin reel for one derby and thought it was a neat concept until it jammed up and was FUBAR. The other reels i played with were "just okay". Lots of better reels out there.

I would seriously consider Lews...

I have the 700 flip and pitch and have had no issues with it. You can pitch a mile wi it. I also have 4 Castaics and love them but the Ardent is good so far as my use of it.

After years of using nothing but Daiwa, I decided to try Lews. I purchased two and they are very nice reels. Lightweight, sturdy, and best of all the price is right. I looked at the Ardent Edge, but decided to give Lews a try. I'm very happy with the Lews and will buy more.

I love my Ardents. I Have all xs1000's and the new edge elite reels! They cast pretty dang far. I loved them so much I sold all my zillions.

Ardent is USA made, 1100's are good quality throughout.
Shimano & Daiwa are made in Japan, good qaulity; except a few models are made in Korea.
Abu Garcia was made in Sweden, very few are still made there and now made in China. Anything made in China has unkown metals and have quality issues.
Not sure where the new Lew's are being manufactured, Korea would be OK, China is questionable.
Don Iovino was working with the Ardent reels, might want to give Don a call.

i am now up to 12 ardents combination of xs600, xs1000 and edge tournaments and unless they fall apart in the next year or two will support them as long as they are in business...
