As you'll know i build & throw alot of jigs from 1/64oz to 3/8oz all on 4,6,8, lbs test line
The spinning rods i use are bass pro extreme xtr 6'6" med action rods i would like to step up to some better spinning rods but im not up to speed on which brand is the best.

Dobyns...best rod I own. Sensitivity is amazing.

I like finesse jigs but if your looking for one rod to throw finesse jigs starting w/ 1/64oz up to 3/8oz..Isn't that a big gap?

for 1/64 up to 3/16oz, I'd go with my Dobyns extreme 701 spinning. I think 3/8 would be to much... the 701 does handle all lines from 4-8 very well.

I don't really consider jigs that weigh 3/8 a finesse jig, but that's me. If I was limited to get 1 rod for what you mentioned above, I would go with a Dobyns 742dx spinning rod. I like a little extra length for the hook sweeps.

But if it was up to me, i'd go with a dx 701 dobyns extremem and a Dobyns dx 742 spinning.

So your saying that 1/64oz 1/32oz 1/16oz 1/8oz 3/16oz 1/4oz 3/8oz jigs thats a wide gap for finesse jigs Then the 1/2oz 3/4oz jigs i build in finesse style are way to big then for my Extreme trigger etr6'6"mth rods loaded with 10lbs test are all wrong i must be doing something wrong then.


And w.c sorry i dont sell them anymore i just make them for myself now and a couple of my buddy's i fish with thats it.

ok so maybe to explain it better here are the jig sizes i throw in finesse style 1/64oz 1/32oz 1/16oz 1/8oz 3/16oz 1/4oz 3/8 oz all on xtr spinning extreme rods so for the 1/64 1/32 & 1/16oz i should use one spinning rod 4 lbs test for those weights And for 1/8 3/16 1/4 & 3/8oz i should go with another spinning rod with 6 & 8 lbs test. I use these jigs year around and fish as deep as 60 feet and as shallow as 2 feet depending on what time of year it is

Mark, check out the Phenix Ultra MBX. I use the 706 MH spinning rod myself for finesse jigs. The lightest I throw though is 1/4oz I would look at maybe 700M for the lighter stuff. I'd be more than happy to drop one off for you to use next time I'm passing through to Fresno. Let me know! Or better yet, give me an excuse to go fish Hensley or Eastman I do miss those two little lakes! My brother in law still manages Hensley and always bugs me to go fish it! I second the Phenix spinning rods, they are fantastic!

I personally fish the Diawa Fuego spinning rod and a Loomis NRX, both are incredible. The NRX is high priced but well worth the money.

Go put a rod in hand or try one from a buddy and see the different rods. Everyone has different preferences so find the ones you like. I've learned that one stellar rod to some is NOT for me.

I've become a HUGE fan of the higher end Diawa rods lately, things are very underated and take abuse and keep on catching!

Sorry Jiggin...... I must have read your original post wrong. I thought you were just looking for 1 rod to fish your whole range of different finesse jigs....

It really takes some patience and skills to fish those micro finesse jigs especially with 4lb test. I sure bet it's a lot of fun hooking into a 4lb + spot to in 20' plus water...

i've never fish 4lb test to much, the lightest I go is 5lb but you do got me thinking outside the box right now. I still would recommend Dobyns Extreme 701. I don't fish to much in the 1/64 or 1/32 but I do throw a lot of 1/16 with a 3' ringworm. I love fishing like this. Especially when those fish have locked jaws....

for those heavier jigs the Dobyns Extreme spinning 742 and 743 are sweet rods. I know they are a little longer than what your looking for but these rods are to nice to not even mention. I have the Extreme 742 but in casting. I was out twice with this rod fishing a 1/2 oz arkie jig on Berryessa fishing the narrows. I was not sure if it was a good idea since 1/2 jigs are traditionally fished on 3 and 4 powers rods. I just went with it anyways. I found this rod to be very sensitive.I could feel the bottom of the points so well, I felt very in tune with my jig. I did end up getting a few spotted bass and the power of this rod was plenty for that deeper water hook set and bringing those wild spots to the boat.

anniensaltte thank for the info on the rods i do need to step up to some better spinning rods dont get me wrong bass pro makes a nice rod but im looking for something a little extra. I keep up with all the latest jig materials and i have new skirt colors made now and then im currently building some finesse jig in bucktail/silicone/marabou feathers there going to have a real crawdad look to them. Im building them too target wintertime spotted and smallmouth bass so i need too step up to some really sensitive spnning rods.

No Problem jiggin... I just hope when your done with those new jigs your tying... I hope you wouldn't mind parting a few my way!! I would be more than happy to send your a few dollars plus some!!

The rod needs to be balanced with the reel; what reel do you use?
You are currently using a 6'6" BPS med X series rods are about 3 power fast action and able to cast effectively or are you hoping to improve casting performance? Do you have a price range in mind?
You are the only person who can decide what is right for.
My preference for jig rods are bait casting rods/reels and will use spinning only if the jig weight and trailer weigh 1/8 oz or less. It is very difficult to detect strikes without having complete control of the jig at all times and the line drag dampens any line movement. The larger the diameter of the line the greater the drag pressure from the water column. If you are using 4# to 5# FC for the jigs up to 1/8 oz, then focus selecting a rod for that group of jig weights.
5/32 oz to 3/8 oz your line size could go up to 6# to 8#, your current rod may work or considered another rod/reel combo. There are lots of good off the shelf choices and some excellent custom rods the equal or exceed NRX for far less money with life time garrantee.
