I need to replace my trolling motor and would like a Fortrex80. I see more deals on the 52" shaft vs the 45" shaft which is the length I have on now. If I got a 52" is it capable of being adjsusted/raised so that it would be close to the depth under water my 45" is now?

I don't know about that particular model, but with Motorguide you can end up with more cable on the deck.

Also if you raise up a longer shaft TM it may get whacked with roll casts.

the base on the 52" and longer is much bigger.
with minnkota's the break is 48" then you get the
larger mount. if your running a 45 now you wont
like the 52 its a much larger unit.

The shaft can be cut to the exact length you prefer. If you are having cavitation problems in waves and want the prop deeper, it's a simple on the water adjustment. Keep in mind the overall unit length increases, the top of the unit extends further back into the front deck area. 50" is a good starting length, you rarely need longer shift for a bass boat. A good trolling motor mechanic can change or modify a shaft and adjust the mount so everything fits your needs.

Thanks all. I guess I will stick with a 45" then.

Minnkotaman- If you see this first I am going to email you some questions about my old unit.
