I'm interested in tinkering around with making my own wakebait. I'm not looking to copy anyone, just want an idea on where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Look on the alumalite website. It's the resin you make the lures out of. There's also an additive to regulate the flotation qualities of the baits.
Check also makelure.com, they have lots of instructional videos on fishing lures by Larry Dahlberg.
Do a search on youtube for Larry Dahlberg. Lots of how to videos there too.

Tale a squarebill crank and put a lighter to the bottom of the bill for a few seconds then take your pliers and bend the bill accordingly. I've been doing that for a few years It works real well with the kvd ones especially. Perfect for (secret tip) cranking or waking the gap between the grass line and rock walls even on a low tide. You'd be surprised how many bass are tucked up in that real shallow grass even on a low tide and they come out and smash that crank up against the riprap!!!

Yjjustfor me is right. You can make any crank that floats into a wake bait that way, as long as the line tie is in the body and not on the bill.
