If you have reels spooled with line and aren't sure if it is mono or fluorocarbon, is there an easy way to tell which is which. I usually mark the bottom of the reel, but sometimes they rub off or I just forget.

Thanks, John.

I keep track of my lines for each reel/spool written on a sheet of paper with the date spooled, brand test, ect.

I have seen other guys use the small colored dot stickers on the spool and write the line test and type with an ink pen on the sticker, but i dont know how this would hold up?

As for differnce on the spool, I have noticed the fluorocarbon brands that I have tried tend to have a yellow/gold tinge to it.

What I usually do is pull some of it out, wrap it around one hand a couple of times , then the other a couple of times and give it a good tug. If it streches then is more than likely its mono. If it doesn't it's probably flouro. Flouro. doesn't tend to strech, and if it does then its no where near as much as mono. Hope this helps.

Here is the easiest and fool proof way to tell if you line is mono or Flouro. MONO Floats, Flouro Sinks. That is why you always read never put flouro on topwater baits. This Should Help
