Since it's a measured fact that the level of the seas is rising, what effect will it have on the Delta?
It's kind of ironic that it's happening while we're in the midst of a historic drought.

If you listen to global warmers, the whole San Joaquin Valley will flood and become another Great Lake.

Regardless of why, or what is causing it, the sea levels are rising.
That can't be good for our levees.

A centimeter of sea level rise from warm water expansion due to the El Niño doesn't mean levees will fail from sea water, they may from tremdous rain fall forecasted.

We've experienced El Ninos weather patterns in the past. In some years, levees were damaged causing massive flooding in the area.

And this was during the years the so call experts claimed we will be facing an ice age in the near future.
Now that's changed to Global warming, and then changed to "climate change"

Yes, climate changing and has been for centuries.

The system will survived, and if the levees weaken due to extreme water flows they'll reinforce the levee.

Basically, the delta region would be at a dramatically greater risk of flood and catastrophic levee failure. When climatologists theorize rising water, it's not like the movies make us believe. The valley probably won't fill like a giant Great Lake. The ocean could come up a few feet. There will be greater strain on the levees and the risk of breech will increase. But has anyone taken a look over the top of the levees on a real high tide? Over a century of farming has dramatically dropped the soil levels of the islands. There is no way the corp of engineers could keep up with that and having such a difference between natural waterline and land below is a huge cause for concern. Look at New Orleans. The fact is the delta has a huge bullseye on her from both Mother Nature and Man. But that's only is you believe what the sharpest minds on the planet are screaming for us to hear...

I'd be more concerned about the ongoing "man caused " salinity levels rising in the Delta .

Has someone begun planning for reinforcing the levees, or is the tunnel plan just a way for them to abandon the Delta and still have water for the San Joaquin farmers instead?

I see levee work going on all the time on different parts of the delta... well they are stacking more rocks lol. Subsidence is what causes the soil levels on the land side of levees to drop. Its naturally occuring and theres not much we can do. Poor planning is at fault for that, subsidence isnt a new phenomenon.

What will the combination of subsidence and rising sea levels do to the levees?
