Cardiff 300 question

I just bought a new Cardiff 300 and noticed that the handle shaft moves in and out about 1/8 of an inch. Is this normal?? I have not seen this on any other Shimano's that I own.

Yes there can be a small amount of play here. If it is too tight the reel will bind under pressure. Since this is a bushing supported drive shaft there will be a little bit more play than a bearing supported drive shaft. Its perfectly normal and will not affect the performance of the reel.
