Joe Lieberman. OMG! Lets hope he stays independant. Who wants him? He's gotta have the most annoying voice since the Nanny show on TV. Those poor delegates should have been given cots.
Who do you think gave the best speech at either convention? I'd say Fred Thompson best of either convention.

I really liked Huckabee but I think Sarah stole the show.

Yeah, Lieberman's career as an elected politician is basically over at the end of this term. I really think he's putting all his eggs in one basket hoping for a cabinet position in a McCain administration. Probably Secretary of State or Defense.

Palin's speech was head and shoulders the best, IMO. Given the circumstances she freaking nailed it. Also the viewership numbers for her speech are now higher than any other speech from any candidate on either side of the aisle.
The viewership numbers coming in are quite interesting. Surprising to see McCain's viewership numbers equal to or even eclipsing Obama's with 6 networks broadcasting McCain's speech compared to 10 broadcasting Obama's. As stated already Palin's numbers are eclipsing both McCain's and Obama's.
It also looks like the RNC may be the most watched political convention ever. That is remarkable considering how hurricane Gustav killed the initial momentum. The GOP can obviously thank Sarah for this if those numbers hold.
I will say I am happy that it appears more Americans are now paying attention. Too many just seem to not even care which is sad and pathetic.

She may have had more viewers because now one even knows who she is. She was not even on anyones long list let alone the short list for VP. This is just a political ploy for the Hillary vote and it may work, we'll see.
Talk about a Messiah complex, the republican party acts like this woman is the savior of the election. Listening to the political brainwashers like Lush, Hannity and others, they are damn near ejaculating over the thought of this woman. Best damn thing to happen to the republican party since Reagan.
When I listened to Lush after her speech he was talking about how she hit a tater (homerun) on her speech and the dems don't know what to do about her. I know one thing we can do about her. Bring up the fact of the republican parties birth control advise is abstenance and it just does not work. Look at this great mother of 5 who has a daughter that is a prime example of why this advise does not work.
After I heard who she was I did a little research on her and I actually like some of the things she has done in her short, short career. But all in all she is still a republican and the country can't stand 4 more years of going downhill.
Anyone notice the new unemployment #s out today? Not good and does not look to be getting better anytime soon.
4 more years of McSame running the Bush agenda will put us in a hole that will take many years for us to dig out.

Please open your mind to the facts. Unemployment numbers are up because of one thing, the mortgage debacle. Google obama campaign contributors and you will see the largest single contributors were the big financial companies who created that crisis. You can blame Bush for plenty but the deregulation of the lending industry is square in Biden and Obama's lap. Nice try though.

Just like O'bomb was wrong on the surge... you are wrong on the economy. Trickle down economics is the only PROVEN economic model that works.

Its "trickle on" economics. Ya its great. Its turned us into a service oriented economy and the created millions of jobs at fast food joints for minumum wage. I guess it depends on what part of the economy you're part of.

Hello....it's a damn campaign EVERYTHING on both sides is a measured "political ploy".
And make no mistake, the Govenor from the great state of Alaska has changed this election completely. Brilliant, brilliant move. Palin is the star now, not Obama. His image is being recast to more appropriately represent him as what he is; a junior senator with outstanding campaign skills and very little else.
And the Bush = McCain strategy is a winner, I sincerely hope the democrats stick with it. Obama isn't experienced enough to man up and publicly recognize the disaster we have now with his democratically controlled congress. He is unwilling to challenge his party to change and improve as McCain did with the republican party. Newsflash; McCain is a lot less conservative than Obama is liberal and he has an extensive history to prove it.
"I fight to restore the pride and principles of our party. We were elected to change Washington, and we let Washington change us. We lost the trust of the American people when some Republicans gave in to the temptations of corruption. We lost their trust when rather than reform government, both parties made it bigger. We lost their trust when instead of freeing ourselves from a dangerous dependence on foreign oil, both parties and Senator Obama passed another corporate welfare bill for oil companies. We lost their trust, when we valued our power over our principles.
We're going to change that. We're going to recover the people's trust by standing up again for the values Americans admire. The party of Lincoln, Roosevelt and Reagan is going to get back to basics."

UHH Greg-I know you are old enough to have watched Bill Clinton give his famous speech that opened up China. He said it was a great agreement that would create jobs for Americans. 65% of all of our manufactured goods now come from plants owned by American companies and producing American brands with 50 cent an hour Chinese labor. He single handedly eliminated the middle class that you and I grew up with. Those were the higher paid non-service jobs you miss so much. Can't blame Bush for that one.

You're right to the extent that it gave us something new to focus on and has obviously energized the Republican base who was otherwise unhappy about McSame. All the polls that I have seen have shown that to be the only effect on the election. Women and independents are no more likely to vote for McSame than they were before her nomination.
Just one prediction though, her popularity will hit the crapper as soon as the public learns more about her.
Most importantly, she is the least prepared VP candidate since Dan "Potatoe Head" Quayle. Upon being announced as McSame's running mate she was asked about her views on Iraq, to which she replied that she hadn't really thought about the issue. Why do you think it is that McSame's people has refused to allow her to be interviewed as of yet by the national media?
Just the other day it became known that she had attended at least 4 different colleges in the 6 years it took her to get her Bachelors degree. Now obviously that could have been for many reasons, but as someone who is involved in the educational system I can say that such a pattern usually indicates a student who is struggling to make the grade. We currently have a failure of a president who routinely jokes about being a C level student, do we really want to go that route again?

This concerns me a lot less than the lack of experience and sound judgement Obama brings to the table. One can argue that the background Sarah brings trumps the junior senator's - with ease. I am still stupified (along with all the other democrats) that Obama picked Biden. It's simple, he chooses Hillary and he wins going away. (PERIOD) I don't know about you but I'll take a sure winner everyday of the week. Why Obama didn't have the judgement and experience to make an Obama/Hillary ticket work is just shocking. A shining example again of his lack of experience and sound judgement. He may become the biggest fool of a presidential candidiate we have ever seen, I certainly hope so.

The way I see it, in their private little meeting, it went like this. Very short and sweet.
Due to the Bush administration's utter failure in all aspects of government, no single candidate can dig us out in four years, We are now entrenched in the middle east militarily with no hope of winning or getting out, (unless we institute the draft) the economy will worsen and by 2012 people will be begging for another change. I bet Hillary told Obama in no short order, "Don't even think about me as a running mate for a second."
She'll be back in 2012, but on her own.
She biding her time.

So if Obama wins in '08 you expect the democrats not to have him at the top of the ticket again in 2012? As I'm sure you must agree, Hillary's only shot at a Whitehouse run in 2012 is against an incumbent that's a republican. Otherwise she is sidelined for the next 8 years.
Obama had to make it work with Hillary. It was his first big challenge on the national and world stage and he failed miserably. Quite telling in my opinion.

I agree with you that Obama screwed the pooch with picking Biden but he can handle Biden but he can’t control Hillary or Bill. He knew if Hillary was his VP she would go off on her own and Bill will be Bill.
As for the election in 2012 forget it if Sarah get in – your looking at the next 12 years! I bet Hillary is pissed over Sarah being VP pick – don’t get me wrong she will still try in 2012. If Obama wins she is out for other 8 years and she still need to get elected in New York.

He'll be a candidate but I believe the democrats have put up opposition to an incumbent democrat before. I believe the next term president will fail miserably and have a 30% approval rating or less at the end of his or her term.

As Bush has? But what is even better is congress approval rating is even worse.

I can't remember what it was in the latter days of the Republican majority when they got all wrapped up in the Monica Lewinski affair.

I believe it happen before the Monica Lewinski affair!
It started for me during Vietnam and that hippie girl calling me names at the Airport so I kick her boyfriend bAss – up to that point I did not know or care about politics, they made it personnel. If I had to do it all over again I should have kicked her bAss – I can still see her face and the blood veins sticking out on her neck and temples.

Perhaps.
The reason "why" is really inconsequential. If the junior senator cannot even work it out with the Clintons to claim the presidency how could anyone think he's ready to tackle the challenges of being commander in chief of the free world?
"Just words, just speeches...."
Indeed.

Kurt, I agree 100% - if he can’t handle this then it just shows he will not be able to handle the challenges ahead – very good observation you made!
