Industrial revolution, a time when private sector unions were good for all American workers, a time when people had no choice in the safety of their workplace, the hours they were required to work, and the exploitation of children workers. Yes, we can thank them for establishing the first set of workplace guidlines into law providing people with a safer workplace environment. The whole concept was based on the premise that standing alone would have no effect but uniting could force change, it worked, and did much good for workers in this country. Fast forward to today. Its no longer the David vs Goliath scenario and hasn't been for decades with the myriads of local, state and federal workplace laws. Goliath is now more afraid of David than David is afraid of Goliath. No need for unions these days and hasn't been for years, the lowest level workers or Davids can now bring huge corporations to their knees with all these workplace laws hanging over their heads. So, whats the purpose of unions these days? Extortion, plain, simple and straight to the truth of the matter.

And then we get into the public employee unions, a big factor in the downturn of this country. When we allowed public employees to unionize it was the biggest mistake the country has made. CA is a shining example of that outcome. You know whats almost comical, the people in this bankrupt state re elected the governor who originally signed the bill allowing state employees to unionize.
