So who makes Loomis GLX blanks
So who makes Loomis GLX blanks
Does Toray make these blanks or what?
Re: So who makes Loomis GLX blanks
yes i want to know as well. I heard they are both made by Toray but they are not the same blank. I dont work for G Loomis or Phenix, maybe someone who does can shed some light on the subject with some facts to back it up.

Re: So who makes Loomis GLX blanks
GLoomis is a Shimano company and I was under the impression that they manufacture their own blanks.
Toray manufactures composites used in blank construction, but I don't know if they actually manufactured a finished blank. I have heard that Phenix rods use Toray materials and they might know more about Toray's contribution.

TackleTour has information regarding the Phenix X10 crankbait rod, which indicates "makes use of Toray materials in its construction":

I've sent an email off to G Loomis' customer support to see if they can supply some information regarding their GLX blanks. I'll post their reply when I receive it.

I knew that would be the response. A lot of companies won't disclose where they get materials.

Not suprising at all huh? It's not really any different than Ranger, Ford, or Chevy is it? They build the finished product, but buy the matrials elswhere.tunaman wrote:Response from G. Loomis customer support:

Re: So who makes Loomis GLX blanks
Rods are made in Woodland, WA. . . So that indicates to me they are "assembled" up in WA, but where do the actual blanks come from??? Obviously if they actually wrapped the mandrels and baked the rods up there they would be taking great pride in that and use it as a marketing tool - such as "100% Made in the USA". At least I know I would be doing that if I had a rod company...tunaman wrote:Response from G. Loomis customer support:

Re: So who makes Loomis GLX blanks
The blanks ARE constructed and assembled in Woodland Washington. This has ALWAYS been a positive point for G. Loomis, and also a unique aspect of the best rod making company in the world. What other major rod manufacturer can claim that? The fact of the matter is, is that the rods are comprised of various parts that are from different areas of the world, i.e. the cork for the handle typically comes from Portugal (the leading exporter of cork), the guides on all rods other than GLX (which have Nickel Titanium guides) are imported from Japan and made by Fuji. But like I said before, the blanks ARE wrapped and have ALWAYS been made in Woodland Washington.

Re: So who makes Loomis GLX blanks
There are a good number of rods "MADE IN THE USA" including some Lamiglas, Loomis and others.
I did recently hear about (and then I checked out the website)American Eagle Rods, which are apparently "100% US", even the blanks are constructed in the US, the only stuff on the rods that are not domestic are the Fuji Guides and Fuji reel seat.
I'm also told Fred Roumbanis is on the pro staff (second hand info)
The GLX Blanks are supposedly made in the US, but all of the other blanks are made elsewhere.
