Will size matter this weekend..?

Post by AnglersPress »

"Put a Yamamoto Senko on the end of your line and I guarantee that you can catch over 50 fish this weekend", noted 2009 U.S. Open Champion and Oroville guru Gary Dobyn's during last night's seminar at Fishermen's Warehouse.

"Right now the fish at Oroville are EVERYWHERE between 0 and 10 feet and are pretty easy to catch..but you can best believe that there are some good ones mixed in there too", he quickly explained to the large crowd in attendance at the seminar.

And those anglers preparing for the Thunder Valley Outdoor/Future Pro Tour’s third stop of the year dubbed the "Gold Rush Run”, to be held at Lake Oroville this Saturday, those words of advice coming from this well-known Evinrude pro, make a lot of sense, as the week-long warm temperatures we have been enjoying will play a huge part in bringing the bigger fish up into the shallows.

Size, and the ability to know how to upgrade from just "keepers" will play an integral key part in separating teams from the “rest of the pack” as Lake Oroville this time of year will provide for just about everyone, 5-fish limits weighing between 8 and 9 pounds.

What that means, according to Gary…is that if you want to cash a check or win..you must have at least two 3-plus pound fish in your limit..period”. This means that one of you should be throwing a Lucky Craft Sammy, or some other top water bait first thing in the morning to have the best chance at getting a big fish – before the sun gets up high on the water”.

And reports from those pre-fishing for this event verify that this is just what is happening.

Anglers prefishing for the event this week have reported catching 3 to 5 pounders– first thing in the morning, followed by a marked slowdown in the action where they have to return to off-shore deeper presentations to get fish.

Get in on the action!

And If you want to get in on the action this weekend… it is not too late as the morning of the event, from 4 – 7am, at the Spillway ramp, we will take late registrations for the event, and if you can only fish this event, or maybe just want to try out the FPT, $5 per angler limited memberships will be available to you.

Does size matter? ….you bet it does.. and we will see just how much it matters as we head to Lake Oroville for some of the hottest and fastest action of the year!

See you there!
