    Water Temp: NA

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Hello all. I have been fishing Calero for nearly 14 years and have had my wins and losses, but most important of all, I ALWAYS practice catch & release. This is just a reminder to all the new anglers in our area that catch & release is VERY important, especially this time of year as spring and the spawn season approach. Good luck to all of you this season! See you out there!

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Sorry for the late report, phone line was down ALL weekend. Fished Calero from 8:30-4:45 on Saturday and found a great bite. Really windy until mid afternoon. I hooked 13 and landed 10 of them. Really nice fish today, I managed a 5, 4, two 3's, and the rest were all solid 2lbers. I threw small jigs and zipper grubs right around 10' of water. I also managed to get 3 of my smaller fish on a shad colored Fat Free Shad crankbait....nice change of pace. The water must have warmed up a little bit because I didn't get any short strikes today, and the fish fought REALLY HARD. Great day.
    City: San Mateo

Tips: Keep fishing slow but don't be afraid to pull out a crank or blade, especially if it's windy and/or cloudy.

    City: San JOse

Tips: Just bought my first pair of solar bats. I like'um!

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Skipped work at lunch time and headed out to the lake. Started fishing at 1 with a red persuader jig I got at the fishing show. Fished about 10 to 15 feet of water on the point straight across the lake from the launch ramp and got a small 2lber. Picked up the jig so slowly I couldn't even feel it until I saw my line moving. was the only boat on the water, wind started to pick up at about 3 and started to look ugly. Worked the jig the rest of the day in about 15 feet of water, seems like thier starting to stage. Managed to catch my limit for a small total of 11 lbs. All fish bit very softly, might of missed a couple mistaking them for bump against rocks. Just waiting for the water to get warmer, then the hogs in this lake will start hitting.
    City: san jose

Tips: Worked a Persuader Jig along the south shore in 15 feet of water very slowly and pay attention to your line. Most pickups are slow and gradual. good luck, and tight lines.

    Water Temp: n/a

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Fished from 8-4 today w/ a partner. Water has come up quite a bit from the last trip out. It was FREEZING cold until about 1pm, and real windy. I caught 4 to 4.9lbs, partner caught 5 up to 3+lbs. We also missed some strikes. Best time BY FAR (last few trips too) has been in the morning. We caught many of our fish in less than 10' of water shaking zippers and using small rodstrainer jigs. Our best 5 would have gone about 16lbs. Had some luck w/ cranks last time out....tried them this time for a bit and got zip.
    City: San Mateo

Tips: Fish shallow and SLOW...move out to slightly deeper water later in the day.

Report: Fished the afternoon, started out with White Spinnerbait, after about 25 minutes with that, I switched to a Jig, still nothing. It was cold, windy, the water was very choppy. Calero still needs alot of water. I give it around mid March, it will be great!

    Water Temp: hi 40's

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Fished all day without a bite, until around 4:45 -- at which point I hooked a 4 or 5 lb'er on a black & chartreuse jig, with a black pork trailer. He surfaced, like, 3 times, fought him for close to a minute, but when I reached for my net (paddling like hell in my kickboat to try & keep on the pressure), he shook off, within 10 ft. or so of the boat. Damn! Got the heart rate up, though! As GLX mentions, keep it slow! I went all the waydown the mid-lake shoreline, but didn't get that hit til I got directly across from the launch ramp, just in front of the horizontal log/tree trunk lying right at the water's edge.
    City: San Jose

Tips: Keep it slow, with dark (or maybe bright fluorescent) colors. I had RealCraw scent on my jig, too, which might've helped.

Report: Woke up late and didn't launch till about 9am. Fished till 4:45. Had good action the first hour, and the last hour....not much in between. For the day I missed 2 bites, hooked and lost 2, and landed 4....a 2lber and 3lber on a Senko, a 1.5lber on a Zipper Grub, and a great 6lber cranking a fat free shad. That fish sure was a surpise. The Senko fish were in about 7' of water, while the crank and zipper fish were in about 10'. Overcast w/ light rain and light wind the whole day. Great day on the water.
    City: San Mateo

Tips: Don't be afraid to try cranking early and late.

    Water Temp: 50-52

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Got to the lake about 9:30 and fished until 2:30. Caught 8 Bass total. Best five fish weighed just over 20 lbs. Caught all the fish from the bank to about 5 ft. One fish was 8.6lb. on the scale. That fish was in about one foot of water. All the fish were caught on 1/4 ounce black and purple jigs with a purple pork trailer. Bang crawdad scent was used on the baits. The fish would hit the bait as soon as it landed in the water.
    City: Gilroy

Tips: Fish dark colors until the water clears. Black and purple are a killer combination at Calero in the winter months. For as many years back as I can remember fishing there it's been the same every winter. Especially right before spring hits. Use a dark colored jig and put alot of crawdad scent on it. Fish the bait shallow even in the coldest part of winter. Throw the bait right on the bank and drag it into the water. Pop it up one time hard and then let it sit for a few seconds. The fish will usually hit right then.
