I threw several baits, but the only thing I could get bitten on was a Yamamoto crawdad in watermelon w/ red lakes.I picked up 6 keepers, but nothing over 2 lbs. All but one o the ish were caught on wood (shady side), in 2-6 t o water.O the water at 10:30.

Report: This is just a quick report on the much improved ishing at Clear Lake. I guided a good isherman in his 519 Ranger Thurs morning, starting at 5 am. I was so excited about the irst couple o casts - expecting a toad, since a ew have been showing up. My client landed the irst two right away - a stunning 2 lbs each. So much or my excitement! But we kept getting bit and the bass worked their way up to 4 1/2 lbs. We were using junebug Dead Ringers and black 10" Power Worms. Ater a slight lull, and ater the sun came up, I thought it might be over. Then an amazing thing happened!! We tried a new rockpile, and ater I made a way-too-long cast, I got hammered on the Power Worm and nearly ell out o the boat setting the hook, but I got her - a little over 5 lbs. For an hour we caught several quality bass in the 4 1/2 to nearly 6 lb range, ishing several areas in the Rattlesnake arm. These quality ish decided to eed at 7 am, kind o weird or August. The bite lasted about an hour and all those big ish were taking 10" black Power Worms. So, in three hours we had 11 in the boat (we missed about 6 or 7) - the ive biggest at 25 1/4 lbs. That is more like the Clear Lake I know. We then did some cranking around Rattlesnake Island to see i that was working. Client lost a nice one on red/black, and I landed a 3 1/2 on chartreuse/blue. Ater breakast at Konocti Resort, we looked over some other good spots, ishing a little. We threw some rogs, but only had one blowup - on my green Snagproo rog - near Horseshoe Bay. It was a good one too - 6+. She totally missed the rog! We rogged some in the north end, but it just didn't happen or us. Still, a great day at Clear Lake.
      City: Yuba City

Tips: Obviously, the large worm bite has really materialized in a big way - day and night! Folks sometimes orget (including mysel) that black worms are very eective sometimes in the daytime too. That was deinately the color they wanted. This day they wouldn't touch a jig or us. Crank bite is also improving. Good luck!

      Water Temp: ~70 degrees

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Out o the numerous trips to the reservoir, I inally landed a 3lbs large mouth bass out o Laayette. There are decent size bass out there, cause I've seen them on numerous occasions--just swimming by. That day my riend, Jack and I hit up one o the docks around 6:30 pm, it was windy and clouds were rolling in. The water was a bit cloudy. So I started out using a plastic worm (tried dierent colors) with no luck, and then to a spinner, inally gave up and I reached or my Storm lightning Shad crank bait (blue gill colors). I cast it out a several times on the edges o the weed bed and BAM out o nowhere a hit out o hell! It was a hard hit and it gave me a good ight. I'm just glad I caught a bass inally out o this once thought to be a "no luck" reservoir. I'll be back this weekend!
      City: Hercules

Tips: I you could see them, orget it, they won't bite. Crank bait did it or me this time. Weather change may have caused the ish to be more active.Catch and Release!

Report: Thursday nites tournament was won by Mike Sorenson and Mike Despain. The Mike's beat out 32 other anglers to win $340.00 or 1 19" bass. The ish was caught inside the 5 mile bouys at Lime Saddle Marina on a crankbait. As the pair were coming in around 8:30 they graphed some ish on a point and decided to make a ew casts beore time was up. Minutes later the ish was on and neither angler with a net. They teamed up to hand line the ish in or the win. Mike Despain becomes the irst angler to win more than once this year.
      City: Paradise, Ca.

Tips: Crankbaits seem to be the ticket now with some action on jigs and buzzbaits. Not much inormation was shared because o upcoming tournaments.

Report: Fished rom 6 PM to 3 AM during the ull moon and one word sums it up. AWESOME. Biggest ish was only 3lbs. but the bite was wide open. Fished the dam area, it was OK, but Lure Point ended up being the best spot. I you like to get bit or catch a ish on every cast this was the place.
      City: Visalia

Tips: I was split shotting a 7" june bug colored Zoom worm. Cast to the top o the point, i your not bit then work it very slowly o the drop. Fish were stacked at the 14 to 20 t. level. Good Luck & Always Catch and Release.

Report: Decided to go ishing at the last minute and hit up the lake around 1:00. I went straight to my secret spot and sighted 2 nice sized bass hanging out around the shoreline. I walked slowly toward them, and made a cast with a senko ew eet behind them with no avail. Suddenly, when I was retrieving my lure, a 10+ pound bass comes out o the depths to get a better look at me. As I retrieve the senko past her, she swims over and takes a look at it then takes it and heads or deeper water. I quickly set the hook, only to have the tip o my pole snap o, but the ish was still on. She came up and jumped, throwing the hook out o her mouth, and breaking my heart. That would o been my irst 10+ pound bass, but shit happens. Thanks to that experience, I am now more motivated than ever to catch my irst trophy bass.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Very tough ishing. Fished or about 3 hours out o my tube. The lake is the lowest i've ever seen it. It was also very muddy. Tried mostly reaction lures such as spinnerbaits and crankbaits. Caught 2, both about 2 pounds in shallow water no deeper than 5 eet. Very tough ishing. Lots o baitish.

Tips: Reaction lures over the tops o islands.

Tips: throw rattle traps on main lake points with rock. BEWARE: lake is extreamly LOW and threre are "tops" popping up everywhere.

Report: Guide trip today one person, Started the day around Franks Washington cut to be exact and lipped a 2lber out o the tules, the cliend had a hard time casting so over to the rocks and down the bank I'm throwing a Persuader Blade in Blade all Chartreuse Buzz bait "my avorite" then landed 5 bass rom 1.3 to 2lbs and one good one missed it, like usualWe then went over to the north side o Quimby and landed 3 bass 2 on Senkos and another on the buzz bait, then to the east side on Quimby and we ound a school o 1.2 to 2.2 lbers we should have had 5 or 6 the client hadn't been ishing in a while and was having a hard time eeling the bite :-) We then went to Dissapointment the ront part irst cast a 2.5 on a senko we then hit almost every point up the river or a ew miles with ish on most every point. The ish today we on the back sides o the points and ailrly shallow 2-3t the one with sparse weed were the best, but the were ish on even the bare points. The 30 ish days seem to be going away but we still managed over 20 not including all the arming!

Report: Every trip I make with clients is new, exciting, and most o the time, a lot o un (and work!) Last night't trip was no exception! Two un guys, not too much wind, and LOTS o bites. About twenty-seven bites among us - a great improvement over the past month or so. My job is to put them on ish, and their job is to get them in the boat. When they started missing ish ater ish, I began joking with them as to what I would write on this post, and o couse, it got crazier as the night went on. I threatened to reveal their names, blackmail them, make them swim back, etc.!! Actually the whole evening was a hoot - one o the clients nearly lost all my sinkers and hooks in the rocks, and was 0 or 10 in the landing bass event - every guides dream! He was thrilled to get so many bites, and didn't seem to mind that he was losing them all. Ater about our or ive o these bass got o, we reviewed hooking setting, and I did tell him that it really was FUN to land one!!! But, he lost all the rest. So much or my teaching ability, Har!! The other ella lost the biggest o the evening, about 5+ at Sea Breeze. He struggled too, but did manage to put our, I think, in the boat. Actually, in their deense, the bite was kind o weird, I missed one or two jig bites that I shouldn't have. We wound up with 11 in the boat, out o 27 bites. Our averabe size wasn't much to call home about - about 3 1/2 lbs. My cookie cutter shrunk! The ellow that lost the 5 did get the biggest at 4-9. The other strange thing about the trip was that we would only get one bite on nearly every place we stopped. So, eventually we would pull up on a spot, get a bite or land a ish, and then say: "Time to move!". I will have to say that this was one o the most enjoyable nights, considering all the lost ish, that I have had in a long time. I had a great time, and I know the guys did too!
      City: Yuba City

Tips: It still amazes me how dierent ishing conditions are during each trip. O the past three trips - the irst saw ew bites, but ish up to 6 lbs with one monster lost. The next trip had more ish but just a 4 lb average. Last night was ull o eeding activity - the most or me this summer, but even smaller ish - not a big one was even hooked. It is like they vanished. Last night there was a clear winner in the "best bait" department. The winner by ar was the 10" Berkley Power Worm in black/chartreuse - which they don't even make anymore. I think I have 150 let, and when they're gone, I cry! On a summer bright moon night - they are just tough to beat. We ished about 20 rockpiles and ledges during the trip - all but two provided at least one bite.

Report: LAKE POWELL FISH REPORTAugust 2, 2001 By Wayne Gustaveson Home Page: www.wayneswords.com Lake Elevation: 3669 Water Temperature: 78-83 FStripers are still boiling all day long at Hite. In the rest o the lake, gangs o 10-25 stripers arehitting the surace or the irst two hours in the morning and again just beore dark. Hite stripers are boiling in the main channel and most o the canyons rom the Dirty Devil anddown as ar as Red Canyon. Some sustained 45 minute boils occur along with the regular 5-10minute boils which are most prominent. The only drawback is persistent wind beginning about 10am that riles the surace enough to mask boils. As soon as the wind calms stripers can again seeshad and boils start all over again. Stripers weigh 2-5 pounds and will hit ull size surace stickbaits, shallow running crank baits and spoons. Hite is the place to be or topwater stripers thisweek. This action is the stu ishing videos are made o and you have the opportunity to star inyour own show at Hite this week. These ish are great eating. Report: Went tubing in the backlakes. Caught a 7.5 lber on a Castaic trout (island pond, o course). Also managed to snag a ew ones on purple twin-tail grubs with 1/16 oz jigheads.
      City: Eugene

Tips: Marshall, i you want to catch tournament keepers, I'd suggest utilizing the knowledge I have tried to pass on to you. You wouldn't think those Castaics would work in the ponds but the do. You may not catch quantity but you will catch quality.

Report: just heard today that the orest service is shutting down a number o asreas on the lake to skiing and tubing, all areas north o the gooseneck on the Sac arm are going to close to skiers today, the Squaw creek arm north o monday lat will also be closed also, this might sound likea good idea to us isherman but it is going to push the law abiding skiers into other areas ished and create some problems, the olks who don't care will be running into these areas closed anyway so the alling levels will create some dangerous traic problems until ater labor day. This dows not bode well or the isherman looking or some quiet water, the night ishing can be a bit dangerous or those not amiliar with the lake at low levels so go slow in the dark or risk damage rom the many trees and rocks coming up that haven't been a problem or about 9 years. This will deinitely have an adverse impact on the ishing until the summer ends. I will keep ino posted as sit develops.
