Bassmaster Elite Series pro and west coast fishing legend John Murray drives thousands of miles each year as he competes at the highest level in bass fishing.
He has been doing it for years and understands the importance of keeping his truck and boat maintained. For him, it is his livelihood and he relies on several Lucas Oil products to protect his equipment and rig.
It’s All Good
Murray has been sponsored by Lucas Oil products for four years now and says he couldn’t be happier with the Lucas lineup.
“Everything they make is great. I hear that all the time when I am talking to people and I never hear a single bad thing about one of their products, and that’s unheard of,” he says.
There are many great products made by Lucas, but the reel oil, Slick Mist cleaning products, and vehicle maintenance products are the ones he counts on every day.
Fishing Reel Oil
One product in the Lucas Oil outdoor line is the fishing reel oil. It comes with an easy to use needle applicator to get to those hard to reach places on your reel. John Murray is a fan of both how easy it is to use and how well it works on his reels.
“In the past, you had to cut off the end of the plastic tube and it wouldn’t reach all of the parts on your reel. You would end up with a mess and your reel wouldn’t even get oiled,” he says and added that he sometimes applies it every trip depending on what technique he is using with the reel. “For jerkbaits and crankbaits where you are making tons of casts in a day, I will oil the reel every night and it will keep them feeling like new the next day.”
Murray uses Lew’s reels and said that his reels now come with Lucas Oil Reel Oil in the box. “The oil keeps your reels smooth and you have less grinding over time,” he says.
Lucas Oil Slick Mist Tire & Trim Shine
Murray is admittedly someone who doesn’t clean his truck and boat after every single day on the lake, but he says the products he uses keeps them cleaner longer.
“The tire and trim shine works great when you want to detail your truck and boat because you can use the same stuff for your tires and plastic parts. You just give it a quick spray and wipe and it is clean,” he says.
Slick Mist Marine Speed Wax
Like the Tire and Trim Shine, the Slick Mist Marine Speed Max works very well on glass, chrome, and vinyl and is easy to use. While fishing on the Bassmaster Elite Series, Murray runs a wrapped boat all season long. The first thing he does when he gets the new wrap is to apply a good coat of Slick Mist.
“It keeps it much cleaner and is easier to keep clean after you apply the first coat,” he says.
The same principle applies to a fiberglass boat without a wrap, once you have used the product it becomes easier to keep clean going forward.
Lucas Complete Engine Treatment
Murray typically puts over 30,000 miles a year on his Dodge. He drives across the country and most all of those miles are with the boat in tow. To project his truck, he will use the Lucas Complete Engine Treatment and will typically add it midway through the season.
“I’ll run it through a tank of gas and it keeps my motor running perfectly. You will also notice better performance,” he says.
The treatment protects against corrosion, helps the fuel system, increases miles per gallon and power.
Safeguard™ Ethanol Fuel Conditioner with Stabilizers
The dangers of ethanol for outboard engines are something all boaters need to be aware of. Ethanol can wreak havoc on your outboard and do damage to your fuel lines. The best option is to find ethanol-free gas, but that is not always possible. That is where Lucas Oil Safeguard Ethanol Fuel Conditioner comes in.
“Most of the good bass lakes have ethanol-free fuel; because, they understand how important it is. But if you can’t find ethanol free gas, you need to some type of additive to protect your engine. I’ll also add this treatment anytime my boat is sitting for a long period of time because it stabilizes your fuel and prevents build up,” says Murray.
The Lucas Oil lineup ranges from protection to performance to cleaning and they have something for just about anything you can drive. There is a multitude of products designed with the boater and angler in mind and John Murray says these five make his life easier as a professional bass angler.
