Ben Green is back to debunk more bass boat insurance myths. This time he focuses on the trailer. Check out the four myths about bass boat trailer insurance that every angler needs to know.

Hello Fellow Anglers,

If you ask a Bass angler about his trailer, you may hear Craw, Paddle, Slow and Action!

Today I’d like to discuss the other trailer, the boat trailer!

As fishermen, we talk about minor adjustments that make the difference when money is on the line. Here’s one and a few supporting scenarios that you may want to consider:

MYTH #1 |TRAILER DEDUCTIBLES CANNOT BE LOWERED

Deductible Adjustment:

Most boat policies have a separate deductible for the trailer. This is the amount you pay for the covered damage. Here are a few scenarios that justify a lower deductible:

MYTH #2 | INSURANCE INSN’T FOR A CO-ANGLER
Relationship Saver
:

You just met your co-angler. He is fired up for the big day ahead.  As you are in line to launch, you ask, “Are you comfortable dunking me? There is a parking lot 45-yards up the hill and around the bend. ”Your new friend is eager to help and says, “Yes”.

After he pulls up the rig, he is headed to the parking lot. Knowing he will not have much time or cell phone reception, he is finishing his last minute texts, making sure his Facebook post looks good and he pulls the truck into the space. The truck becomes a little heavier in the turn; so he gives it more power. You guessed it; he has just pulled your trailer and the trailer in the next stall with it!  After he figures out how to tell you, you ask him to pay your deductible for the repairs. If your deductible is $500, you may have a difficult time collecting. A $100 deductible is much more palatable and can ease your worries to let you focus on fishing.

It's not just about the trailer...

MYTH #3 | CUSTOM ISN’T ALWAYS BETTER

Parking Lot Bandit:

Similar to the scenario above, you return to the trailer to notice someone has customized your fiberglass fender. They didn’t leave a note.  $500 vs. $100 for a deductible makes a bad situation a little better.

MYTH #4 | IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN TO ME
Bass Boat Trailer Tire Blow Out:

Like death and taxes, blowouts are going to happen. That passenger side rear is just itching to get your attention. When the blowout occurs, sometimes it can smash up the fender with it. Axles, wheels and electrical components are not usually spared.

The cost of this adjustment is usually less than $20 of annual premium. I encourage you to investigate options.

Boats are meant to be enjoyed. Should an accident occur, knowing you have minimized your out of pocket cost may make the experience better for you and your passengers! Contact me for any questions. Thank you, Ben
