Longest sturgeon on record caught

The sturgeon spearing season ended on the upriver lakes Tuesday after the 11th adult female was registered at Critter’s at 1:55 p.m., just under the wire.

There were a total of 32 sturgeon harvested from upriver lakes on Tuesday, which puts the season total at 297. Last season's harvest was 295 fish. 

On Lake Winnebago, 42 fish were registered for a season total of 229 sturgeon. 

Kyle Jenkins harvested a female sturgeon that was 143.7 pounds and 84.5 inches, making it the largest taken on Tuesday but also the longest on record that's been harvested, Ryan Koenigs, senior fisheries biologist and Winnebago system sturgeon biologist at the DNR, said in a statement.
