Edwin Evers in the West

Bassmaster Elite Series pro Edwin Evers is a 13-time Classic qualifier, an 8-time B.A.S.S. champion and a 3-time runner-up for the Bassmaster Angler of the Year title. This week , Evers made his way from Talala, Okla. to the California Delta ready for the big bass competition.

Evers was last here at the Delta in the 2010 event, where he finished 25th.  For this year's stop on the tidal water fishery, Evers has what he called a "simple plan" in mind.

SIMPLE PLAN

"I will have a frog, a ChatterBait, a spinnerbait, maybe a squarebill crankbait and two or three flippin' rods," revealed Evers. "I definitely plan on doin' some flippin'. Mustad has got the best flippin' hook there is and that is what I am using. I've got some Z Hogs and Z Craws on the 4/0 straight shank hook and some on the 3/0. I've also got a couple of Megabass Spark Shad swimbaits tied on the Mustad swimbait hook and a weightless worm."

Evers initially is planning on making the run and heading towards areas around Frank's. "Things could change, depending on how it looks when I get there," he added. "It's really all about trying to find the area to catch the right fish. The whole place has fish in it. It is just a matter of how to get the bigger bites."

Evers is looking forward to the tidal changes of the Delta. "I embrace it and see it as a way to make the fishing better, because the tide change can make the fish feed," he said.

PRECONCIEVED NOTIONS

Following the Delta event, he is looking forward to the 2nd half of the western swing at Lake Havasu. "I love going to new bodies of water," he explained.  "I don't have preconceived notions that I can't win an event. if I've never been there before. I feel, the fact that I've never been at a lake can be a benefit. If I have been there before, I can eliminate 70 percent of the lake before I ever even practiced. In my mind, when I am at a place that I've never been, every spot has the potential to win. A lot of times that kind of thinking can be the way to find a group of fish that even the locals haven't found."
