Clear lake this week 11/23/2016

First off I would like to wish everyone a very happy and safe Thanksgiving weekend.

Around here the lake level is up to 1.66 Rumsey, even with all of the rain we’ve had this past 10 days, the lake level is basically flat from last week. I suspect the gates are open again. Waters going somewhere?

Anyways, water temps are now in the 50’s and pretty much staying there throughout the day and there is an ugly brown bloom of some kind throughout the lake, I would think related somehow to the lake turning over and it does seem to have affected the bite in a negative way, at least mid-lake south. In the north there are still some easy fish to be had here and there on LV500s and drop shots thrown in and around the docks.

Traditionally, this is the beginning of swimbait season, and the Hudd 68 and 8” Trashfish have been leading the way the past week or so, that said, you have to cover a bunch of water to be successful right now, though it can be done. Glide Bait time is just around the corner as well, especially considering some of the colder nights we’ve been experiencing this past week. No more shorts this year!

Minnows Yes sir, it’s that time of year as well for those who can’t throw the plastic variety, the real thing really begins to shine this coming month, and the kids of all ages enjoy it once they try it. Please be extra careful when handling these larger fish the minnows tend to catch this time of year. Please practice CPR, catch-photo-release.
Remember, you hold the future of the fishery in your hands, and yes, even one fish can make a difference when they get that big.

Weather The coming week has a little of everything mixed in. Rain, wind, fog, and a lil sun. Be wise and wear that vest.

Caution Please use extreme caution if and when you are in the Rattlesnake arm as the pole that everyone uses as a reference and rock pile warning out in front is now GONE! Yep, someone ran it over believe it or not, and there are now two white bouys and one red one holding its place.

Have a great week.
