From CDFW Feather River Hatchery Rescue.
CDFW is trying to make the best out of a tough situation by evacuating juvenile salmon from the Feather River Hatchery (just downstream from the Oroville Dam). We have successfully relocated 100% of the spring run Chinook (2 million juveniles) and another 3 million juvenile fall run to a separate location. Staff and engineers have rigged a system of pumps, pipes and generators and a sediment pond to filter the water enough in hopes of keeping two raceways operational enough to support fish. Staff also are using municipal water from a fire hydrant, treated through charcoal filters, to try to keep about one million steelhead trout eggs and fry alive in the hatchery building.
