Lake Coeur d'Alene Bass Fishing

Post by ttb31183 »

Lake Coeur d'Alene in northern Idaho was ranked #4 in the 2014 Bassmaster Top 100 lakes and then #11 in the 2015 edition of the rankings. That's why it is embarrassing for me to say that yesterday was the first time I have fished in in two years when it is less than an hour from my house. We just have too many different lakes that the tournaments take us too that I haven't made a trip until now. Fishing it requires an out of state license, tribal fishing license (for some parts) an Idaho invasive species sticker for your boat. No excuse, I need to get out there more. I have a club tournament there next weekend, so I made the trip and it was a great time to be out there.

The lake is beautiful and holds giant smallmouth and largemouth in it. I only had a few hours so I fished one section of the lake trying to find something for next week. I'll make one more pre-fish trip out there and spend it fishing for largemouth because that should be the way to catch the 20+lbs it should take to win. You can get 20lbs with smallmouth, but with largemouth it is a little easier....if you can find the good ones.

I was fishing for smallmouth exclusively yesterday, just to check it out and see if it is worth my time during next week's tournament. I was focusing on water from 15-35feet and they were everywhere I went. No big ones, but plenty of 1.5-2.5lb fish on drop shot. These are the kinds of areas I was targeting: underwater points and humps.

If you ever have a chance to come up and fish it, do it. It is a great fishery.
