Re: Truck Campers, I have questions
Lance is the best out there. But like Ranger Boats, you're going to pay for the name and reputation. I have an 87 Six-pac 8' camper and it's great! I've seen a few mew ones around the mother lode tournaments too. I'd go with the 8ft camper so you don't need the darn hitch extention. I had a 10.5 ft before and the 89ft tows the boat awesome.
The best Rig would be a F-350 dually with a 460 big block. Ooops, Ford stop makinf the best motor they ever made. 8ft campers are made to go on 3/4 ton trucks so what ever kind of guy you are (Ford, Chevy, Dodge) get a 3/4 ton truck WITH OVERLOAD SPRINGS or pay the big $$ and get air bags. You can do it with a small block, but you'll actually use more gas than a big block as you will be working the motor harder. The straight six ford was the sxception. I had a buddy with an 8ft camer tow his ski boat with the straight 6 and a 5 speed.
good luck with your purchace.

Re: Truck Campers, I have questions
I have had three cab over campers and I really like my Lance! They think of every thing . I also like the shorter models so it's easy to get around. What ever you get make sure you get the electric jacks
I didn't and I'm sorry. Lance campers are more expensive but in this case you get what you pay for.
As far as trucks get plenty of power Diesel are big block engines are the only way to go. I use a Dodge Ram 2500 with a Cummins Diesel. Suspension is important I have air bags, overload springs and sway bars this makes for a much more stable ride. Good luck hope this helps.

Re: Truck Campers, I have questions
I'm another happy Lance owner. You just can't beat 'em. Like all top-of the line items, they usually have a bigger price tag than others. My Lance is worth twice what I paid for it a few years ago. Mine is the 11 1/2 ft. model on an F350 diesel with air bags and gas shocks. The Lance costs more, but it will not fall apart on you when you use it.

Hey Dave go to www.rv.net
They have a great forum and click on Truck Campers for reading information.
They helped me with questions I had.
I will most likely get a Lance.
Have fun,
Sieg

Re: Truck Campers, I have questions
I have a Fleetwood Angler 8' extended Cabover. I like it just fine, it has a queen size bed turned longwize in the cabover portion. Fridge, Stove, Oven, Shower, Shiter, Heater, TV/VCR Combo, all the comforts of home.
As the others have said, when I was looking Lance was by far the nicest one I found. It was also twice the price of my Angler. I liked the Lance and I liked Ranger too, I just flat out could not afford either one so it's a Fleetwood Angler Camper and a Skeeter for me.
As for Trucks, I have a Chevy 3/4 ton Longbed extended cab with a 350 and a Ford 3/4 ton Longbed Extended Cab with a 460 bigblock. The others are right about needing the power of a bigblock or a Diesel.. I like my Chevy truck alot more than the Ford, but that 460 is a powerful towing machine.

I got some private e-mail sent to me and all of them suggested I talk with you! Thanks for your input.
I do have some concerns about the Dodge, not the motor, but the rigs suspenion and interiors ability to hold up. What are your thoughts?

To all thanks, BUT what about
Suspension upgrades? Do you think the rigs needs them. I am going to buy a new truck, REAL SOON! Being a Ford guy, it's most likely to be an F250 with a diesel. But the Dodges are so cheap right now, and the Cummins is a great motor. It's hard to not look at them when can get one for under 30K, loaded!
If you have opinions on the tow rigs, chime in.

Seig,
So your going to go the camp fish route as well? I have looked at so many different makes and models in the last two weeks. I find Lance to be like Ranger. When you say camper, people say Lance. When folks find out you bass fishing, they say "so you have one of those Ranger boats?" And with no offense, that doesn't mean they are the best. I would say about both, they are one of the best!
