Citizen scientists are concerned or interested members of the public who assist scientists, researchers and resource managers by conducting surveys, collecting data and reporting valuable observations. One way you can help is by joining California Nerodia Watch, the CDFW’s citizen-science monitoring project for invasive (and restricted) Nerodia watersnakes. Nerodia watersnake populations are currently established in Roseville, Folsom and Harbor City, with several sightings reported in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.

These watersnakes prey on fish and amphibians, and if their range expands, they will pose a threat to endangered fish and wildlife. Learn more at http://www.wildlife.ca.gov/conservation ... cies.Visit www.inaturalist.org/projects/california-nerodia-watch to start reporting observations through the iNaturalist project. You can also download the iNaturalist app on your smartphone. (Photo credit: Gary Nafis)
