Future Pro Tour heads to the California Delta Saturday June 2nd!

Special Pro-Youth event to be added to venue!

ROCKLIN Ca. - With three of the season’s seven events logged in the books, the Future Pro Tour finally makes the “Delta swing” and brings its first delta event to Brannon Island State Park, a facility that features a spacious six-lane launch ramp, and is centrally located between Rio Vista and Oakley. This first stop in a series of on events coming to the delta for the summer, will for many anglers new to the tour, serve as their first experience on the massive and extremely fertile waterway, and will for sure be quite different from the lakes they have been exposed to on the tour thus far. And with a field of over 150 teams expected to participate in this event, the excitement is building fast as anglers that have fished the tour since the beginning of the year look forward to switching out the finesse tackle presentations that were required for the deep water impoundments, for heavy duty flippin’ rods and the big baits necessary to engage the monster largemouth the California delta is capable of producing.

Known throughout the country as perhaps the best “pound for pound” bass fishery, and to those that speculate on such things, the place where the next world record bass may be caught, the California delta boasts over 1000 miles of tidal shoreline with a seemingly endless maze of sloughs and levies that sprawl lazily throughout the San Joaquin Valley. Late spring is a great time to be fishing the California delta as post-spawn fish recovering from bedding activities move out and begin to actively feed again.

In this fourth event of the 2007 season, anglers fishing the tour are not only fishing for the event’s cash and prizes, but to also accumulate the points needed for a chance at one of the 70 coveted berths in the year-end championship, dubbed the “Future Pro Tour Classic” presented by People’s Folsom Lake Chrysler/Jeep/Hyundai. In the Classic event, which will be held on Lake Oroville November 10th and 11th, the 2007 FPT champions will receive a fully-rigged Ranger 188vs with Evinrude 150 E-Tec Outboard – the official boat and engine of the Future Pro Tour, equipped with Minn Kota/Humminbird electronics, Centennial Batteries, and rigged by C&C Marine of Modesto and Citrus Heights. In addition, and more importantly, they will have the honor of being crowned the best amateur bass fishing team in the west.

For those that don't know, the Future Pro tour is an amateur level team circuit that offers a great opportunity to learn the basics of competitive bass fishing, meet lots of great people, and just have fun. It's goal simply put, is to provide a venue in which entry/amateur level anglers can improve on their bass fishing skills in a friendly yet competitive environment. Requiring only a nominal entry fee, participants are encouraged to share information, and be part of making our events a fun experience for all. The Future Pro tour is a team format and features 2 divisions - Div I (0-90hp) and Div II (91hp and above), where anglers in each division fish for that division's prize money.

Helping to further build the excitement and fun for this upcoming event, members of the Future Pro Tour’s Pro Support Staff - some of the west’s most notable professional anglers, will host a pre-registration seminar to be held on Friday June 1st at West Marine Products in Pittsburgh (925) 788-1560. On tap to give Future Pro Tour participants the best information possible regarding catching late spring bass on the California delta will be:

• Charlie Almassey

A veteran of western “bass wars”, Charlie is a consistent performer, and versatile enough to do well on all bodies of water in the west. Making the “final cut” in several of the major Pro/Am events on the delta, including the FLW National Guard series, Charlie knows the delta, and will help many Future Pro Tour anglers fill in some of the missing pieces that make up the delta puzzle.

• Andy “Cooch” Cuccia

Just like “Bo knows football”, Andy Cuccia knows the California delta. A licensed guide that spends over 150 days a year on the river, “Cooch” (as he is known by many), has an intricate knowledge of the delta, and most importantly, an outstanding ability to communicate to the novice angler, the techniques necessary to be successful on this massive tidal waterway. From pitchin Senko’s to topwater techniques, Cooch will intrique anglers with his special tips and techniques and you can be sure you will leave with a better understanding of how to fish the delta.

Other top Delta pros will also be stopping by to say hello and give FPT anglers one-on-one instruction so don’t miss out!. This optional pre-registration seminar will be from 4 to 7pm at West Marine Product's Pittsburg store. In addition to the great seminars, there will be a free BBQ, and free raffle for premium prizes making it a fun time for everyone attending.
