Re: Western Montana

Noxon Reservoir. I haven't personally fished it (yet). But it is supposed to be an awesome lake for largemouths and smallies. My club is going there this July, so I'll be able to fish there finally.

Re: If FLW OUTDOORS brings BFL's

I would fish them in a second. I want to get back to the All-American. All expenses (plane tickets, hotel, food, everything was paid for) and you get a check no matter what. It was the best tournament I have ever experienced.

Re: Co-Angler trying to down size and needs help!

For Havasu in Feb. Bring your cranks and drop-shots for the lake (aaron's magic works really well). And your brown/purple jigs are a MUST. If you go up the river, spinnerbaits and jigs will work well in the sloughs. You can also still drop-shot and crank up there. Havasu is full of shad, bluegill an...

Any place thats too hard for people in boats to get into. Small ponds and backwaters are awesome. But tubing is fun no matter where you go.

Re: Crankbait Rod Length?

Ray, This is the Tyler Brinks from Henderson. I never worked at AC Pro Shop. I fished the BFLs 2001 and 2002, AOY Co-Angler in 2001. I also fished the everstarts the 1st year. I don't think I ever drew you but remember talkin to you. I moved to Spokane, WA to finish my degree. Hopefully I will find ...

Re: Crankbait Rod Length?

I like the 7 foot size for better casting distance. Get a Bass Pro Crankin Stick for 30 bucks and you can get a few sizes for different baits. I have a 7 ft medium for my big cranks and a 7ft medium lite for the smaller cranks. They are awesome.

Re: drop shotting in the winter time

I drop shot year round. It is a very effective way to catch fish in the winter, but I seem to catch the biggest bass on jigs during this time. One problem I have is that I fish the drop-shot really fast so its hard for me to slow down enough in cold water.

If you live in the west, or want to know western techniques than no question basswest. As we have talked about before, they never show up on time, but it is worth it. I bought a "2 year subscription" about 3 years ago but I am still recieving magazines since they are so late in getting the...

Re: Poll: How many of you guys would support B.F.L.? in CA?

I would definately support the BFL if they came back. The tournaments were low priced and gave you a great chance to fish with some great pros. I was lucky enough to draw John Murray and Greg Gutierrez. To fish with these guys for a 75 dollar entry fee is great. You learn so much and at the same tim...

Back seat theory

Now that I think about it, all of my big bass awards were from the back seat. Redman, U.S. Open, and all of the club ones. Hmmm. I have fished tournaments from the front and back of the boat. My partner in a team caught the big bass from the back of my boat. There has to be something to this. I know...

I texas rig all of my drop shot baits because I throw my drop-shot in alot of brush, grass and rocks. I started using a size 1 g-lock after fishing with John Murray. Carolina rigging is one of my go-to baits for bigger fish. I have caught several kickers late in the day on a carolina rig. When I fished with John Murray in a BFL on Lake Pleasant, he went for a kicker at around noon and pulled out his carolina rigged lizard and one ounce weight. Carolina rigging b...

Trixie Shad and Smallie Beaver

The trixie shad is a great bait that you can fish a few different ways. I rig it with a 5/0 Gamakatsu EWG hook. You can fish it fast on top of the water like a buzzbait. The tail makes a great buzzing action on the surface. You can also let it fall and flutter like you would with a zoom fluke. Retie...
