Where would you choose?

Post by Brian Manthe »

If you could pick 1 state (other than California) to live in for the best bass fishing, which state would you choose?

Thanks,
Bassman

Texas, Alabama or Tennessee would top my list, not in any particular order.

Tough question...as I am the "mobile" kinda guy I don't think I could limit it to one state. I like California because of the weather but can't stand the cost of living here. Plattsburg, NY would be great for part of the year - wouldn't want to live there when it is frozen, Florida would be great for part of the year - the humidity gets to me so this also eliminates a serious part of the whole south for a serious portion of the year. I am actually looking at living in Kentucky next summer - access to some good fisheries, Cumberland, Kentucky-Barkley, and the usual California drive from many others. I just need to get me a real nice RV and go "truelly" mobile!

BTW...If you haven't fished Lake Champlain...you have missed out  This is one of the Tour Pros favorite stops for a reason. It is alot like our Clear Lake except with lots of big smallies and a trophy largemouth is only 6 pounds or so instead of double digit (they are Northerns and the growing season is on a few months due to the winter freeze). Last time I was there I caught a solid 20 lb limit the first day and the next day I caught a 22 lb sack anchored by a 6.5 lb largie. My biggest smallie there is only in the 4 lb range. I tend to fish there with Dion Hibdon and he likes to focus on the "Green Ones". On both days I lost track of the number of 2-3 pounders that I caught.

Hmmmm, tough choice, let's see...

Oklahoma - Red River, Arkansas River, Grand, Skiatook, Fort Gibson, Ologah, Ten Killer, Broken Bow, Eufaula, Sardis, Texoma, Robert S. Kerr and BellCow. Select a home in the middle of the state, over 1 dozen Prime bass fishing locations within two hours!

Missouri - Lake of the Ozarks, Mark Twain, Table Rock, Bull Shoals, Montrose, Truman, Stockton and Long View. WOW, 8 legendary bass fishing ponds!

NE Texas - Fork, Lake O' The Pines, Grandbury, Conroe, Lewisville, Toledo Bend, Sam Rayburn, Kemp, Richland Chambers & Arrowhead. There are 97 other lakes I didn't mention! Hmmm!

My goodness, well, how about ya give me a 40 acre ranch house outside of Muskagee, Oklahoma! I could hit every one of these lakes and it would be a shorter drive for me than from Oakley to Shasta! HAR! HAR! HAR!

I would go along with Cooch, a home in NorthEast Texas or Central Oklahoma..More bass fishing than you could shake a flipping stick at..May not be as good as the Delta or Clearlake, but one heck of a lot more options..

1. WA, you got Potholes reservoir, Banks Lake, the Columbia River, Lake roosevelt, silver Lake, Lake Washington. If you really Think About it. Its a BAss Factory. Just the Weather. I have lived there all my life and it still is annoying every once and awhile.

2.AL, You got Lake Eufala and Guntersville. world Class fisheries!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

3. MO, you got Table rock, Bull Shoals, Lake of the Ozarks!!! SPOTS, LARGIES, and Smallies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Weather would seem to be factor no matter where you wanted to go so I suppose that's why California is a prime fishing state. Now if we could just slip past all the politics and just be able to go fishing.

If pressed to vote and weather wasn't a consideration I'd have to go with Texas. If we were talking multi species, options, ease of recreation and weather still wasn't a consideration I'd likely have to also cast a vote for Minnesota. It's not the land of a thousand lakes for no reason.

Now Gary that idea is prime..Of course the cost and the fact that you might not have a permanent home are slight drawbacks..But I like the idea anyway..

If I was forced to go some where out of NorCal

Post by Jim Conlow Sr. »

God forbid but it would be southern Calif. Or second to Calif would be Alaska.

I have spent a lot of time in many other locals outside of Calif. I recognize that Calif has a lot of problems but I live here by choice and will continue to do so.

Ya know i haven't experienced bass fishing outside the northwest but i really do love the fishing we have here, especially now that I have a boat.. I think i'd stay planted right here in Vancouver WA.. Largemouth fishing could be a little better but the smallmouth fishing here would be pretty hard to beat...

one thing though. Someday i am gonna fish Guntersville...... It just sounds like my kind of fishery, good crankbait bites!!!

I don''t have much desire to catch monsters, if i wanted big fish i wouldn't be a bass fisherman...
