    • Report: Lake Mead Fishing Report – September 12

      Current Bite & Conditions:
Bass are being caught both up the river and in Vegas Wash, where stained water has helped improve activity. Productive areas include grassy shallows where crankbaits can be ripped clean, and sharp drops just outside coves where fish are staging. A mix of shallow power fishing and deeper finesse tactics is producing.

Bass were caught both shallow (grass ripping, frog fish in practice) and deeper (sharp drops, finesse rigs).
Dirty water in Vegas Wash helped trigger bites.
Consistency was key—big kicker fish played a huge role

      Best Techniques & Baits:
Crankbaits: Lucky Craft LV 500, 6th Sense Curve 55 (ripped through grass).
Bladed Jig: Evergreen Jackhammer (B Hite Special) with matching trailer.
Carolina Rig: Key adjustment when the bite slowed.
Finesse Rigs: Wacky-rigged 5” Yamamoto Senko (Green Pumpkin Purple Copper), Ned rigs.
Jigs: Football head with Yamamoto Hula Grub (Green Pumpkin Red).
Other Producers: Rapala DT10 crankbait, with frog activity noted in practice.

Lake Mead is offering opportunities for both big kicker bites and consistent keeper fish. Anglers should target grassy flats with power techniques early, then shift to finesse presentations on drops as pressure increases.

      Tournament Spotlight:
At the 2025 Ranger Boats WON Bass Lake Mead Open, Dylan Denny (Dewey, AZ) claimed the win with 28.03 lbs (2 days).
2nd: Kevin Hugo (Canyon Lake, CA) – 26.07 lbs
3rd: Joe Uribe Jr. (Surprise, AZ) – 25.73 lbs, including an 8.05 lb largemouth

    • Report: Lake Mead Fishing Report – September 11

      Current Bite & Conditions:
Day one of the Ranger Boats WON Bass Lake Mead Open was cut short by severe desert weather, canceling the first scheduled day and turning the event into a two-day sprint. Despite tough conditions, anglers found success both up the river and in shallower water around Mead. Big fish were in play, with one standout largemouth topping the 8-pound mark — a rarity for the lake. Lake Mead continues to show flashes of big bass potential, even under challenging weather conditions. Anglers are finding bites upstream, in shallow cover, and with finesse rigs in pressured areas. Staying flexible with both power and finesse tactics is critical.

      Best Techniques & Baits:
Versatility / Junk Fishing: Shallow and deep presentations worked for the leader.
Power Shot Rig: Key producer with a 6” Roboworm Fuego worm on Sunline fluorocarbon.
Big Fish Factor: Both power techniques and finesse rigs produced tournament-quality bites, with one kicker weighing just over 8 lbs.

      Tournament Spotlight (Day One Results):
1st: Dylan Denny (Dewey, AZ) – 17.63 lbs
2nd: Joe Uribe Jr. (Surprise, AZ) – 16.41 lbs (Big Bass: 8.01 lbs)
3rd: Kevin Hugo (Canyon Lake, CA) – 15.22 lbs

    • Report: California Delta Fishing Report April 16

      Current Bite & Conditions:
A big wave of fish has moved shallow and the Delta is “really fun right now.” Expect roughly 15–20 keepers a day, with some days 25–35 keepers and fish up to 7–8 pounds. Fish are in the 1–6 ft range. The grass is “nice and crispy.” Morning water temps start 56–58 and can warm to ~64 by afternoon (generally 57–62/63). There are spawning fish and plenty of pre-spawn.

      Best Techniques & Baits:
      Bladed Jig / Chatterbait:
      Sizes: 1/2 oz and 3/8.
Jackhammer with a Zaco (color: “watermelon, orange, copper”); the orange shines in stained water you can only see ~1–1.5 ft into.
Custom vibrating jig (1/2 oz) with a kamicazi swim on from Big Bite.
Line: Sunline PEX8 with a fluorocarbon leader (for long casts and solid hooksets).
Target crispy, clean grass along rip-rap banks; runs well in 3–5 ft.
      Squarebill Crankbait:
SP57 (designed by Mark Daniels Jr.): honeycomb interior, thinner walls, circuit board lip, comes with EWG hooks, “sub-$10.”
Line: Sunline Crank FC (8–16 lb).
      Flipping / Pitching / Punching:
yo mama (colors mentioned: green pumpkin June bug, also likes 1099).
Weights from 1/2 oz up to 2 oz; swap weights situationally (may have multiple flipping sticks rigged with different sizes).
      Frog (topwater):
Mat Daddy Frog, white early (fish bedding in 1–2 ft; “water’s tainty,” can’t see them).
Work it slow; walks well in open water and over mats.
Line: 60 lb AMZ8 Sunline braid.

Expect ~4–7 bites/day, but they can be the right ones.

      Key Depths:
1–6 ft (general zone for this period).
3–5 ft for bladed jig along clean grass/rip-rap.
1–2 ft for frog over bedding fish.

Tips: Keep it simple: start with reaction (bladed jig/squarebill) in the shallow grass and rip-rap, mix in flipping/pitching/punching a yo mama as situations change, and have a frog ready for bedding fish in skinny water.

Begin with a reaction bait, but don’t get stuck on one bait or brand—some days they prefer a Jackhammer, other days a custom vibrating jig. Match your punch weight to each situation (swap between 1/2–2 oz as needed). For the frog, go white early over 1–2 ft bedding zones and work it slow; pair it with 60 lb AMZ8 Sunline braid. For bladed jigs, use Sunline PEX8 + fluoro leader to drive the hook home on long casts.

    • Water Temp: 69.8°F.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I've been out fishing at Lake Mead the last couple of weeks and the bass are now on beds in the shallow coves. the water is clear and sight fishing is good. they are hitting jerk baits, crankbaits, and soft plastics including purple and craw colors. As well the striped bass bite is turning on now. we have not seen boils yet but the stripers are getting hungry and have been going for frozen anchovies, and jerk baits that resemble shad.

Tips: they are hitting jerk baits, crankbaits, and soft plastics including purple and craw colors.

Mead is pretty tough right now. They are eating plastics and jig pretty well. We caught over 30 smallies and largemouth on Sunday the 12th. Nothing over 2 1/2. On Monday we went to Mohave. Fishing was awesome. Topwater, spinnerbaits and jigs all caught fish. Our top 5 weight was over 19 pounds. Caught easily over 40 fish.you can get a lot on information by visiting your local sportsman’s warehouse. They seem to have a good idea what their biting on.

    • Report: Gary Dobyns » Tue Jun 28, 2016 11:27 am

Most of the fish caught in this event were in less than 10 feet of water. In fact I'd say most were less than 5 feet. The fishing was pretty decent with probably about 70% being largemouth. The 2nd day was tougher on many teams because there was no wind and Mead always is tougher on slick water days. Topwater, jigs, and dropshot were top producers. Vegas wash was the top producing area. Congrats to the Salazar family. They had a great family turnout as well with 20+ family members showing up. It was awesome. We need more family involvement to get back to the "old days".

Thanks to all that helped make the WWBT Teams a success this year.

    • Report: From AZGFD
LAKE MEAD – The current elevation has increased by approximately 8¼ inches from last week to 1079.9 feet above msl. The National Park Service has improved conditions at South Cove launch ramp, but only one boat can launch at a time. Be sure to check out launch ramp area prior to launching. Be careful boating because of low water level, many new islands and near surface rocks have appeared. The striper bite is steady on Lake Mead. Fishing the boils with top water baits is probably your best type of lure. If you get into the stripers the top water bite can last for hours. Cut anchovies are still the bait of choice for stripers when anchored at night. Check the moon phases before you go –the last new moon was Dec. 11. The next new moon will be Jan. 9.

Dark nights work best when fishing under light. Fishing for stripers in 40-plus feet of water will normally find the larger fish. If they are not taking the anchovies try lures and see if you can get them to bite. If you can locate the shad, the stripers are not far behind. Trolling usually works best in areas where shad are found and best done in the early mornings and evenings. Anglers are still catching black bass but with the colder weather the bite may decrease.

    • Report: From Lake Mead

Launch ramp conditions at Lake Mead have improved significantly thanks to an ongoing $1.5 million construction project that began in late July.

The project involves underwater excavation, dredging, grading and construction of reinforced concrete ramps. The concrete ramps will extend down to the water’s edge, and concrete panels or steel pipe mat will extend roughly six feet below the current lake water surface.

Construction is ongoing at five launch ramps, Echo Bay, Callville Bay, Hemenway Harbor, Temple Bar and South Cove. At least one lane will remain open at each ramp during construction. All interim ramps are in good condition with easy launch. Conditions can change daily. Please survey the area before launching to make sure it's suitable for your vehicle and boat.

At Boulder Harbor, which has a launch ramp down to an elevation of 1,060 feet, crews are dredging the harbor channel approximately 15 to 18 feet below the water surface. Navigational aids are in place to guide boaters around dredging.

All ramp work is scheduled to be completed by the end of September. Funding for the project was provided by fees collected at entrance stations and the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act.
