Alax, you may have hit something bigger than that though. It's typically springtime more than now that you have to worry about that stuff in the lakes, so it surprises me that you had that happen. Dang, with your luck though(I mean, hitting a powerpole with your truck), you might want to take up ano...

Totally disagree with ya on thinking Mercury should warranty it for ya. If you hit a powerpole with your Chevy and damaged the bumper, would you ask Chevy to warranty the bumper? No different to me. I will say that if you're looking to get it repaired, then send it to Phil's in Redding. There's nobo...

You can do it on your own. It's a piece of cake. Just take the tires off, there's a hex screw in the hub inself, spin it to the bottom to drain, then fill it with 50 weight( I think, call a dealer to double check) to the top again. It does take awhile to drain though, so just take the screws out, ro...

I use my cruise when I can, and yes, it does make a difference for me in MPG. It's a Duramax, and the throttle is really sensitive, so the cruise keeps it constant rather than bumps in the road affecting it.

I too have asked this question, and the best response I got from someone was that both are good motors, but think about where you get support when you DO need it. Mercury dealers outnumber Yamaha dealers as far as for repairs probably 5 to 1. No matter where you go, you can always find a Mercury dea...

Hipster, if you haven't tried it yet, give No Sweat Mist a try. It has a UV protectant in it, which to me, makes it a better product. Also, I used the Spot Remover to get the water spots off my Merc and it worked great. They really did their research and put out a good product line.

I've been told by 2 mechanics that just like today's cars, outboards are designed and tested to run on 87. They have also said that 87 actually burns cleaner than 89 or 91, which makes for better power. I used 91 octane in my '91 Ranger with a Johnson years ago, and a mechanic back then basically ch...
