I use the Mercury Quickare now instead of Stabil. Seems they end up costing the same so I figure why not use the Mercury product. I use it with every gallon of gas to help prevent phase separation from the ethanol fuels.
I almost always use Quickleen with every gallon.

Another vote for the Simms Windstopper gloves. I use the fingerless ones.
When making long runs, especially the first in the morning, I wear some uber thick snow gloves.

Mercury does have a new ethanol resistant hose but it only came out in 2007 or 2008. Even this line was starting to show the effects of ethanol. As the was pointed out in the BBC links, you want to get the newest Mercury line. It is gray with blue writing. It has EPA Compliant written on it. Differ...

On the Delta, especially in summer, it is a huge benefit. Speeding up & slowing down for tight and/or blind corners, floating junk, giant wakes from those cruisers, misc idiotic boat owners, both hands stay on the wheel & you can adjust throttle simultaneously. I've had several 'family' boat...

Had the Dobyns DX742SF out @ Pedro on Thursday. (Man was it cold in the morning!) Really like the rod for both dropshot & flickshake techniques. It is 7'4" long. I feel like the rod allows longer casts - good thing in clear water situations. No downside with the longer length that I can see.

Depending on where you're fishing (lakes vs delta) & how (dragging vs pitching) I'd buy a 4 or 5 power Champion Extreme. Pick your length. DX704 & DX705 are the 7' rods. DX744 & DX745 are the 7'4" rods. Personally, I would go with a 5 power & the DX745 in particular.
