2025 California National Hunting and Fishing Day

Today we celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day, a time to recognize the vital role hunters and anglers play in conserving California’s fish, wildlife and wild places. Whether you’re a seasoned hunter or angler, or just beginning your journey, there is no better time to get outside and enjoy all California has to offer.
Here are a few ideas and ways you can get out this weekend to celebrate the day:
Fishing is fantastic at this time of year. Cooler temps and active fish make this a prime time to cast a line.
Lobster season opened on Sept. 26, grab your lobster report card and head out today.
Deer hunting is open in several zones and there are still over-the-counter tags available in many zones.
General tree squirrel season is underway, this is a great early-season opportunity.
Sharpen your skills for upcoming waterfowl and upland seasons by heading out to a local shooting range.
Hunters and anglers are responsible for staying informed about current regulations and season dates, and carrying the correct licenses, validations, tags and report cards while in the field.
California’s most dedicated conservationists are hunters and anglers, whose license dollars and participation help fund conservation and restoration projects, research, and more.
Let’s celebrate the past, present and future of hunting and fishing in California by going outside and making memories of this National Hunting and Fishing Day.
