WHITE BEAR LAKE, MN- The Wildlife Forever International Fish Art Contest has partnered with the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation to engage youth and raise worldwide awareness about fisheries conservation. This year, the Guy Harvey Shark Award, named for the world-renowned artist, scientist, and conservationist Dr. Guy Harvey, will spotlight youth artwork featuring sharks.

“The Guy Harvey Shark Award will allow students to unlock the myths surrounding sharks and showcase their critical need for conservation. Using art, youth can share their lessons learned about sharks from the research and information discovered from Dr. Harvey’s research”, said Greg Jacoski, Executive Director of the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation.

The Fish Art Contest is open to youth from kindergarten through 12th grade. Entries for the Guy Harvey Shark Award should feature artwork depicting the Mako, White, Bull or Tiger Shark. An accompanying essay should highlight how their chosen species plays an integral role in the ocean and needs for conservation. One student artist will be chosen as the Guy Harvey Shark Award winner and will receive a print signed by Dr. Harvey (up to a $200 value) and be eligible to win additional awards and recognitions. The deadline to submit entries to the Wildlife Forever Fish Art Contest is March 31st, 2022.

“We are thrilled that the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation has renewed support. Dr. Harvey is a visionary artist and leader in fisheries conservation. Spotlighting sharks for this award will enable thousands of young people to discover the role that sharks play in a balanced ocean ecosystem,” said Pat Conzemius, President and CEO of Wildlife Forever.

The award-winning Wildlife Forever Fish Art Contest®, connects children to science, self-discovery, and outdoor learning through the arts. To enter, young artists create an original hand drawn illustration of any fish species of their choice. A separate essay about its behavior, habitat, and needs for conservation must also be included for grades four and above. Entries are categorized by levels: K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. Entries are due postmarked by March 31st each year.
