Christian Ostrander Captures Early Clear Lake Lead

Randy Marshall Holds Co-Angler Lead

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Christian Ostrander of Turlock, Calif. fished his way to the top position of the Day One leaderboard at the BAM Tournament Trail Pro/Am at the famed big bass fishery of the Golden State – Clear Lake. Ostrander’s five-fish limit tipped the scales at 35.65; anchored by a kicker that went 10.93.

“I was throwin’ a crankbait, a jig, and a Rat-L-Trap, just bouncin’ some spots,” revealed Ostrander.

Unusually generous with Day One info, Ostrander also shared that he targeted depths of 5- to 15-feet, using his LiveScope to locate bait.

“You got to have bait, and big bait,” he elaborated. “There is a lot of little bait, but on the Garmin, if it’s lighter colored, you can tell it is bigger bait – you can tell the smaller bait like the two to three-inch shad, over the bigger ones that are four to five-inches”.

Ostrander’s big fell to a deep crankbait. “I was dredging it, pretty good” he added. “I’m throwin’ it on an 8-foot rod, 12-pound line, whizzing it out thre,”

Marshall Marks Top Spot for Co-Anglers

After the first day of fishing, Randy Marshal from Folsom, Calif. sits in first place on the co-angler side with 28.10, bolstered by a 7.09 big bass.

“The best thing for me was I drew a guy that was covering a lot of water and caught a lot of fish,” said Marshall. “He probably caught thirty and I probably caught 20 fishing behind him.”

Marshall was paired with William Hume as his pro angler. Jigs, crankbaits, and ChatterBaits were credited for the bass catches.  Like Ostrander’s biggest, Marshall’s seven-pounder was tempted by a crankbait.

“It was about 9:30 in the morning and it came on open bank in eight to 10-feet of water,” he said.

Marshall expressed appreciation to Tackle Warehouse for taking care of him as his sponsor, his fam for their support and his pre-fish partner and lake local Mark Crutcher.

The BAM Tournament Trail Pro/Am at Clear Lake will blast off and weigh in at Library Park October 3 thru 5th. Champions will be crowned on the final day. More insight on the event can be found at the BAM TT site.
