What’s New with 13 Fishing
Since they entered the scene, 13 Fishing has quickly become a favorite brand for bass anglers everywhere. They produce great rods and reels and push the envelope when it comes to style and design. Their lineup of rods and reels match the budget for every group of anglers and they have plenty of options to choose from. They recently added lures to the arsenal with a full line of soft plastics and hard baits designed to match every situation on the water.
This year, they showed off new rods and reels as well as two new lures at ICAST 2021.
Updated Envy Black Rods
The Envy series is one of their most popular in the lineup and they now have an updated look and feel. These premium rods feature a 46 Ton Japanese Toray fiber material in the blanks for spinning and casting models and Japanese 30 Ton T-Glass for the cranking rods, Portuguese 5A Cork, soft-touch reel seats, and Fuji K Frame Guides with Zirconia inserts.
They are quality all around and are backed with a 10-year limited warranty. Retail prices start at $250 for the crankbait models and $315 for standard spinning and casting rods. The Envy series is back and it is better than ever.
Kalon Spinning Reels
The Kalon includes three new spinning reels built with quality components at an affordable price point. The Kalon C ($79.99 to $94.99), Kalon Blackout ($69.99 to $84.99, and Kalon A ($59.99 to $74.99) make up the lineup.
The Kalon C has an aluminum drive gear, seven bearings, GLIDE Oscillation System, and a sealed rotor. The Blackout version includes six bearings, a sealed rotor, and lower power gear ratios. The Kalon A is built for durability while also having a smooth drag system and retrieve. It also has a sealed rotor and GLIDE Oscillation System.
Origin Baitcast Reels
Also new from 13 Fishing is the Origin series that includes the F1 ($69.99), O1 ($64.99), and R1 ($59.99). They are built with plenty of features and budget-priced and would make an excellent addition for a new angler or someone closely managing their finances.
The F1 is the top of the bunch and has a sleek design, Venti 20LB 6 Disk Carbon Drag System, Magnet Control System (MCS), Arrowhead Casting System, and a Beetle Wing Side-plate that allows anglers to swap spools quickly. It also features a seven ball bearing system.
The O1 has 18 pounds of drag and a blackout design with all-black “murdered out” components, as 13 Fishing describes it. The O1 also has the MCS casting system and Arrowhead Casting System. This reel is a five-bearing system for smooth operation.
The Origin R1 is the final of the three new reels and is built with 18 pounds of drag, Magnet Control System and Arrowhead Casting System.
Radioactive Combos
The name is self-explanatory after taking a look at these brightly colored rods and reels. They are available in a Radioactive Pickle (green) and Radioactive (orange) color that stands out in the crowd while not breaking the bank. The spinning combos retail for $159.99 and the casting version is $169.99.
They look fun but feature serious features that make them a great rod and reel combo. They are available in both spinning and casting models with rods that have 13 Fishing’s PVG36T blanks, soft-touch reel seats and tangle-free guides made of Stainless Steel Guides with Zirconia Inserts.
The casting reels have 22-pounds of drag, seven bearings, centrifugal braking, and an integrated hook keeper. The spinning reels have 14-pounds of drag, six bearings, a Glide Oscillation System, and Instant Stop Anti-Reverse.
Blackout Rods
The Blackout Rods are back and completely redesigned with an Evolve Skeleton reel seat and Japanese EVA Split Grip Handle design. They are lightweight with durability and retail for just $79.99.
The lineup includes a 7’1” medium spinning rod and 7’3” medium-heavy casting model and has a convenient Evolve Snagless Hook Keeper, Stainless Steel Guides with Zirconia Inserts are backed by a one-year limited warranty.
New Lures: The Jabber Jaw Deep and Lunch Bug
13 Fishing has a full lineup of hard baits and this year; they added a deeper version of the Jabber Jaw crankbait, the Jabber Jaw Deep. The bait has a unique metal bill that rattles and adds noise and swims with a unique action. It has an erratic action, high definition paint finishes and is equipped with premium VMC treble hooks.
For soft plastics, they added the Lunch Bug, a craw imitator with flapping appendages. It has a built-in hook holder for better penetration through the cover without hanging up and includes 13 Fishing’s Donkey Sauce scent. It is poured to have high buoyancy and comes in ten great-looking colors.
