Each year, Abu Garica produces new rods, reels, and accessories with the bass angler in mind. Over the years, they have made their products lighter, more sensitive, and better and better each year. They also pay close attention to the market and have something for everyone’s budget, from the beginner to the enthusiast that wants the best that money can buy.
Here is a look at some of the new products from Abu Garcia that were unveiled at ICAST 2021.
Updated Fantasista, Veritas PLX, and Vendetta Rods
These three lines of rods have gotten a makeover, with the Veritas PLX being an extension to the popular Veritas lineup of white rods.
The new Fantasista X and Veritas PLX Tournament rods have become lighter and more sensitive than previous generations. The Fantasista X includes a blank composed of 36-ton graphite with Abu Garcia’s Powerlux 500 resin system. They have Fuji reel seats, a split-grip design and will be available in nine casting and four spinning models. The retail cost is $299.95.
Unlike the white Veritas rods, the Veritas PLX Tournament rods have a sleek black finish with white Veritas branding. The blanks are 36-ton graphite with Powerlux 200 resin. They are 6 percent lighter and 7 percent more sensitive than other Veritas PLX rods and include titanium-alloy guides with zirconium inserts and a carbon handle split-grip design. The retail cost is $169.95.
The Vendetta series also received an upgrade with a unique handle design built with ergonomics in mind. The blank is 30-ton graphite and each model is highly balanced and lightweight. The retail cost is $79.95.
Zenon Rods and Spinning Reel
The Zenon is a new premium lineup from Abu Garcia that is incredibly light. The Zenon rods were awarded the Best Freshwater Rod at ICAST and are available in spinning and casting models. The Zenon spinning reel weighs under five ounces.
The Zenon rods are Abu’s lightest rod series and include carbon fiber blanks with their Powerlux® 1000 resin system. This gives it extreme strength, sensitivity while also being lightweight. They have premium Fuji reel seats, titanium alloy guides with nitride silicon inserts and carbon handle split grips. Retail is $399.95.
The Zenon reel is a one-piece Magnesium body, with a carbon handle, Air-Fin spool, and a C6 V-Rotor. All of these pieces make it the lightest spinning reel Abu has ever made. Retail is $519.95 and it will be available in both a 20 and 30 sizes.
Jordan Lee Rods and Reels
Superstar pro Jordan Lee has a new line of rods and reels that includes four baitcasting reels, two spinning reels, and 14 technique-specific rods.
The baitcast reels include a right and left-handed model as well as a standard and high-speed version. They feature 10+1 stainless-steel ball bearings, a one-piece graphite frame and side plate and retail for $104.95. The two spinning rods include a 20 and 30 size, Carbon Matrix drag, 6+1 stainless-steel HPCR bearings, and a retail price of $84.95.
The rods use 30-ton graphite and include 12 models for moving baits and those fished along the bottom. They are sensitive, lightweight, and start at just $89.95.
Ambassadeur Pro Rocket 100th Anniversary Reel
One of the longtime and better-known reels from Abu is the Abmassadeur. Since this is the 100th anniversary of the legendary company, they unveiled a special Ambassadeur Pro Rocket 100th Anniversary Reel to celebrate the occasion.
The round reel is in the same classic style that it is known for and made in Sweden. On the side of the reel is an “Abu 100” logo and this reel will be in limited production, making it an excellent choice for collectors and Abu fans. It also includes a felt storage bag with the 100th-anniversary logo. The retail price is $249.95.
The reel itself features a Carbon Matrix drag system, a six-pin centrifugal brake, and a 5.3:1 gear ratio. It also has a level-wind system that improves casting distance and allows the line to lay perfectly. This reel has the classic Ambassadeur look with the same modern features and technologies as other Abu reels.
An Update to the Max Series of Reels
New from Abu is an upgrade to the popular Max series, including Max X, Max STX, and Max PRO. They are packed with big features but priced for everyone. They feature unique PVC knobs that make it easy to handle big fish because of the material and larger size.
The Max X includes a 4 +1 stainless steel bearing system, Mag Trax Braking System and retails for $54.99. The Max STX has one more bearing than the Max X and retails for $74.99. The Max Pro includes a 7.1:1 gear ratio, 7+1 stainless steel bearing system, and retails for $84.99.
