‘FLW OUTDOORS’ TV TO RECAP WAL-MART FLW TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP ON JAMES RIVER

MINNEAPOLIS (Sept. 25, 2003) — This week on “FLW Outdoors” television, co-host and angling veteran Larry Nixon talks to the three top finishers in the $1.5 million FLW Tour Championship presented by Castrol that took place earlier this month on the James River in Richmond, Va. Team Castrol pro David Dudley of Manteo, N.C., lost two fish early in the day, but hung on to catch a limit and post a $500,000 win by 3 ounces over Harmon Davis of Marlow, Okla.

Nixon offers a unique perspective for fishing fans; the Hall of Fame member competed in the championship’s final round, finishing in 11th place and gaining a true appreciation for the tough conditions on the James River. To capture the emotion and excitement of the moment, Nixon, along with co-hosts Carlton Wing and Taylor Carr, talked to the three finalists minutes after the exciting weigh-in at the packed Greater Richmond Convention Center.

Dudley’s $500,000 payday was the largest first-place prize awarded in a bass-fishing championship. Dudley reveals how he caught his fish and why he had to regroup after losing what he believed were good keepers. Nixon also talks with Davis and Ranger pro Rob Kilby of Hot Springs, Ark., who placed third.

Other features this week include an on-the-water visit with fifth-place finisher and Team 7 UP pro Shad Schenck of Waynetown, Ind.; a tournament recap; and a look at the excitement of the championship week in Richmond, where thousands attended the huge outdoor show. NASCAR star Ryan Newman also appears on the program. He participated in the Celebrity Challenge pro/am bass tournament that raised $50,000 for prostate cancer research at the City of Hope.
