Frog Fish How-To: Skipping a Frog

The hollow bodied frog is well known to shine when fished across matted, dense vegetation, but this extremely snag resistant lure is a great choice when you need to put your lure in places that are quite “clingy.”  Areas such as boat docks and overhanging trees are two prime examples.

To get your frog in these areas, an angler will more than likely need to skip it.  Some tips for skipping your frog underneath docks and trees:

  1. Use a frog that has a flat underside, like the Snag Proof Ish’s Phat Frog
  2. Using a rod that is right around the 7’ mark, will allow you ample room to make the skipping motion with the rod
  3. Only let out about six to eight inches of line, this will aid in you getting momentum with your lure
  4. Aim your side arm cast in front of your target, this way the flat side of the frog can skip across the water, just like a flat stone would
  5. Keep your thumb on the spool of your casting reel, this will eliminate the chances of a nasty backlash
