Another factor anglers will have to contend with will be the substantial amount of recreational boat traffic prevalent on the lake at this time of year. Concentration, a critical factor in successful tournament fishing, will be key, as anglers will have to focus as never before to make an impact and claim their share of the event’s prize money. “I’m fishing this tour because it’s important to me to learn how to fish in all kinds of conditions and situations”, said Ray Beck, a Future Pro Tour angler who drives from Eureka to fish the events. “Confronting tough situations at this level can only help to better prepare me for the day when I decide to step up to pro-level competition”.
With three events already completed, this fourth event will be very important for those hoping to earn enough points to grab a berth in this year’s Future Pro Tour Classic, which will be held November 15th-16th on both Folsom Lake and the California Delta. Although the Classic event will be held during the fall of the year, this Folsom event will give angler’s from out of the area yet another opportunity to familiarize themselves with the lake’s complex maze of rock piles and sunken willow tree structure.
The evening prior to the event (June 27th) during the optional pre-registration period, there will be a free seminar featuring one of Northern California’s top bass professionals – Tony Franceschi. Tony is a seasoned veteran on the pro circuit and has a reputation for being a tenacious tournament angler. He has won major Pro-Am events on various impoundments throughout the state and has logged many, many hours on Folsom lake. As a matter of fact, just recently, Tony spent several days on Folsom Lake with noted pro Shaw Grigsby, helping him to pre-fish for the upcoming ESPN Outdoor games in July.
The seminar will be from 5pm – 7pm at the People’s Folsom Lake/Nissan dealership in the Folsom Automall (12530 Auto Mall Cir, Folsom (800) 692-5337). BBQ hot dogs and cold drinks will be served during the seminar and prize drawings will be held. Those registering during the pre-registration period will receive their boat-check number for the event as well as having any LATE FEES WAIVED. Everyone is invited to attend this free seminar – even if you don’t fish the event.
This event will be a 6-hour event, with blast-off commencing at safelight (appx 5:30am), and the first fight of boats will be due in by 11:30am. The launch site will be at Granite bay and the morning check-in will begin at 3:30am at the Fishing Depot tackle shop (5550 Douglas Blvd, Granite Bay – (916) 774-0424. Be sure to get to the registration early in that this event will surely draw a large field of competitors!
