Here Comes Everstart

It has been quite a year for Delta bass fishing after the now famous catch of Robert Lee accelerated the Delta into the national spotlight. Many anglers still say that 30 seconds of highlight film gives them goose bumps. Now for the first time the Everstart series comes to the California Delta in Oakley, Calif. This is going to be quite an experience for anglers who have never fished this area. The 1,000 miles of waterways with and nearly 5,000 miles of shoreline will put anglers to the test.

It’s late spring here on the Delta and How many anglers can truly adjust to a 4-day event here? Who will have enough fish to survive and make the cut? Certainly the locals have an advantage here on the river where everything looks so “fishy”.

Many anglers will rely on bodies of water like Frank’s Tract to get it done, If they do they may be the ones done if the typical spring winds blow. Open area like the Franks tract and Mildred Island areas have been pounded by winds the past few days, (although they are getting a break here at press time). The wind will be a factor. The past weekend brought the combination of strong winds and heavy boat traffic to the area and limited much of the searching prior to the tournament.

While many anglers will be excited with what they find today, the true test will be if they can find enough areas that will produce when the wind and boat traffic becomes a factor later in the week.

Many anglers will trust crankbaits to get their limits, Speed Traps in craw patterns and bluegill patterns will get a lot of play. Buzzbaits are starting to get some play now too. Persuader Black and Revenge Orange are getting much of the buzzbait work done.
