We’ve been back from Sport Fish Panama Island Lodge for less than two hours, and despite the muscle fatigue, the residue of a long travel day, and the spectre of going back to work on Monday, I’m still on a high. We absolutely whacked on giant tuna, more than half of them on topwater lures. The first time we went there I told Hanna that I’d sell my bass boat if I could do that 30 days a year, and while bass fishing will always be my first love, I’m feeling that way again right now.
See that fish above being held up by our 6’7” friend Greg Evers? It weighed 247 pounds and he conquered it by himself — although it took over 2 hours. A couple of days later four of us (including Greg) battled an even bigger one for 3 hours before the hook pulled. It was heartbreaking. We all silently retreated to separate corners of the boat to pout. We’ll be back.
I believe that our January trip is filled or may have one spot left, but if you’d like to put together a group, email us or call Hanna at 703-932-6299 and let’s get you some prime dates. We’re also looking at putting together a “singles’ week” for those of you who don’t have traveling partner, or for pairs who’d like to be put into larger groups. If that is calling your name, let us know preferred timetables so we can get working on it before everything is booked up.
