Intro to Bajío Sunglasses and the Best Bed Fishing Lenses

There's a new brand of sunglasses making waves in the bass fishing world, Bajío (pronounced bah-hee-oh) is the Spanish word for shallows. They got their start in the saltwater world but are making a push in the freshwater market and you'll likely start to hear more about them since they make excellent sunglasses and have a passion for everything related to water.

What Makes Bajio Sunglasses Different?

There are plenty of sunglass companies out there and some really good ones, so what makes Bajío different? According to Melinda Hays, Bajío's Bass Community Leader, it boils down to quality lenses and excellent customer service.

"There are a few things that make us different and one is the quality of the lenses, specifically how much blue light they block," she said. "This leads to more clarity and really sets us apart from other sunglass companies. We, as anglers, use sunglasses as a tool to see the water and the quality of our lenses helps you to step it up a notch."

One other difference is the customer service and willingness to take care of the consumer. Quality sunglasses aren't cheap and Bajío stands behind their products.

"Another big difference with us is the warranty and we have the capabilities of a big brand, but still want to take care of our customers like a small company, so that the whole experience is positive," said Hays. "If you have an issue with your frames or lenses, we want to make it right, right away, so you can get back on the water."

Another unique thing about the company is the lens colors. They offer some proven shades but push the bar with colors you may not have seen before and they all have a purpose.

"We have different lens colors than most brands," she said. "We're about the release a purple lens and already have a pink lens and it's not just a fashion statement. We've tested the purple lens and it's even better than a yellow lens for low light conditions; it adds even more light in those situations."

The Best Sight Fishing Lenses

Hays is an accomplished tournament angler and when asked for the best lenses for sight fishing, she chose the pink and purple lenses that are rose-based.

"It has to do with light transmission and being able to see color differences better underwater," she said. "This allows you to pick out bass much easier, and it also helps you see cover better at the same time. Not just for sight fishing, but it makes you a better shallow water angler where you can target isolated stumps grass and make the right cast because you can see them better."

Hays and the rest of the Bajío team are on a mission to educate about the differences in lens colors and the features they offer.

"Growing up, I never knew all of the differences and would just pick sunglasses for fashion," she said. "Lens tints make a big difference in your fishing when comparing spring to summer bass fishing. It's like the difference between a 7' heavy and 7'3" heavy rod; they each do things a little differently and anglers should think of sunglasses in the same way."

Technology and Lenses

The number one mission for Bajío is to create quality sunglasses and they have a different approach to light management. Where most companies aim to reduce yellow light, they are focused on reducing blue light, which increases clarity. They are said to reduce 95% of blue light, the most of any brand on the market, thanks to their lapis technology.

The lenses are offered in glass lenses that are scratch-resistant and in polycarbonate that are impact-resistant and lightweight. The lenses also feature an oleophobic coating that resists smudging from sweat and sunscreen and help to shed oil and water.

The lens tints are a blue mirror with a grey base, a green mirror with a brown base, a silver mirror with a copper base, a rose mirror with a red base, and gray and copper based lenses.

You can also select frames with the environment in mind with several unique materials to create the fame itself. The materials include bio-based nylon, castor-based bioplastic, coconut husk, and recycled stainless steel. They also use renewable glass for the frames, cactus leather for the cases, and recycled cardboard and paper for each box.

Bajío is a new name for the bass fishing world, but they will be a household name before long. They produce excellent sunglasses with the angler in mind. They have committed to creating a sustainable product from the glasses and frames to the cases and packaging for each of their sunglasses.
