The storm has arrived and the lake is starting to rise. In early February, we were close to 16' from the top when flood control releases dropped it back down to close to 40' down. Over the past couple of weeks we have started to creep back up and estimated that we will be at 13' down by the end of May...pretty much a very full lake!
The Dam is in the process of installing the "Dam Cam" which will be a live camera to monitor lake levels. Once we obtain the link, we will share!
June 20th will be the celebration for the Dam's 80th Anniversary. Details to follow.
Fire Prediction - "Significant Fire Potential is projected to be normal from March through June and June historically represents the month when large fire activity increases." This is also excellent news going into summer and can ease the concern of those regarding fire danger.
The Forest Service Hot Shot crew is fully staffed and the FS Fire will be conducting fuel removal and prescribed burns leading up to the summer season.
Forrest Service (Shasta Lake Operations) - A new invasive species has been detected in the San Joaquin Delta and O'Neill Forebay water bodies in October of last year. Much like the Quagga and Zebra mussels, they have the potential of spreading to other water systems within the state. As of now, there are no mussels in Shasta Lake. There are also no closures and/or check points for boats coming from other lakes to Shasta. If that changes, we will be sure to notify the public.
IF you are bringing a boat from other navigable waterways in the state, please follow the self-checks that one can easily do for personal boats to prevent the transfer of these invasive species to Shasta.
There are several new floating restrooms on the lake, the S.S. Relief's are available on most arms of the lake.
There have been 72 Bald Eagles counted on Shasta during there last survey!
