Market squid, aka Calamari, naturally live fast and die young! This hardcore lifecycle lends to one of the largest and most sustainable fisheries in California, and makes squid respond rapidly to changes in their environment, like water temperature. Due to public interest, advances in assessment tools, and increasing data on this species, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife is reviewing squid fishery management with an eye toward climate resiliency. CDFW is seeking nominees for a new Squid Fishery Advisory Committee to provide expert advice in support of this important management review.
