MICHAEL MURPHY ADDED TO NATIONAL GUARD ANGLING TEAM

MINNEAPOLIS (Nov. 5, 2008) — The National Guard announced Michael Murphy will join its angling team set to compete in FLW Outdoors tournaments in 2009. Murphy began his career on the Walmart Bass Fishing League, but has spent the last two seasons fishing the Walmart FLW Tour, Walmart FLW Series BP Eastern Division and the Stren Series.

The National Guard entered into a partnership with FLW Outdoors in the fall of 2005. Since then, they have demonstrated unprecedented support for the sport of professional angling.

In 2007, the National Guard became the title sponsor of the Western Division of the Walmart FLW Series – a circuit that gave Western anglers professionally administered, big-money, televised events for the first time. The National Guard became the title sponsor of FLW College Fishing in 2008. This circuit, which begins in 2009, offers students who belong to bass clubs at the schools the opportunity to compete against other anglers at a high level and win scholarships and prizes for their clubs and schools they represent.

For 2009, the 15-member National Guard angling team will consist of bass-fishing pros Ramie Colson, Brent Ehrler, Tim Klinger, Scott Martin, Murphy, Jonathan Newton, Clifford Pirch, and Justin Lucas, as well as co-anglers Pam Bolton, Diane DeLaGarza, Pat Lay, Adam Lock, Michael McGhee and Rachel Uribe.

“I am humbled to joining the National Guard team this year,” said Murphy. “I am joining one of the elite teams within FLW Outdoors and I, along with all my teammates, am proud to represent the more than 350,000 men and women serving their country in the Army National Guard.”

FLW Outdoors, named after Forrest L. Wood, the legendary founder of Ranger Boats, is the largest fishing tournament organization in the world. In 2008 alone the organization is offering more than 90,000 anglers the chance to win over $40 million through 230 tournaments in 10 circuits. FLW Outdoors also took fishing mainstream with the largest cash awards in the history of fantasy sports, $7.3 million.
