Postcard from the field NOAA

NOAA Fisheries West Coast

An exciting tow was in store for the team on the Pacific hake acoustic/trawl survey. Scientists aboard the NOAA ship Bell M. Shimada shared this #PostcardFromTheField after they finally found some larger hake just north of the Columbia River off Long Beach, WA. Here, a team member holds a large hake measuring 80.5 cm in length. It was fascinating to see the few big ones after catching the usual sizes (40-50 cm) for so many tows.
