School of Fish adds "Fish On" Kids Books

(Elbow Lake, MN) School of Fish, a unique kids-fishing education program, announced the addition of Fish On Kids Books as a sponsoring partner today. Fish On Kids Books partnership will begin with School of Fish On Ice this coming fall.

Designed as a three-hour fishing class for upper elementary and middle-school age kids, School of Fish hosted 22 open-water classes in 2013 and graduated 458 students. Based on those successes,School of Fish will launch School of Fish On Ice for fall/winter 2013-14. Taught in a fast-paced and fun environment, kids learn about finding and catching fish in the winter, ice safety , knot tying and how to rig their own ice fishing set-up.

Additionally, kids leave class with their own rod & reel, tackle pack so they are ready to enjoy more time on the ice after the program. The new Fish On Kids Books sponsorship means each School of Fish On Ice graduate will leave class with the first book in the five-book series entitled, A Whirlwind Opener, by K.J. Houtman.

"School of Fish is about angling and kids enjoying time outdoors," said Mike Frisch, one of the School of Fish founders. "Houtman's wholesome fictional stories are about those kinds of kids," he continued. "As a former teacher, I am thrilled that we are able to provide each School of Fish graduate with a chapter book that will build on the interest of fishing we start in the school. The books, targeted for eight to 12-year-olds, are a series that kids and families can continue to read." Families may wish to purchase the remaining books in the series as paperbacks or as e-books for a Kindle or iPad.

School of Fish is offered to fishing/sportsman's clubs, civic organizations, and retailers. Designed as a turn-key opportunity, School of Fish provides materials and training, while the local group gets the recognition of providing a great opportunity for their community.

"We are thrilled to join with School of Fish and bring the books that embrace a positive message about fishing and the outdoors to the students and their families," added author of the series, K.J. Houtman.
