Ashland City, Tenn. -- Triton Boats' Pro
Staff member Randy Howell made bass fishing history last weekend by winning the
2014 Bassmaster Classic, held Feb. 21-23 at Lake
Guntersville, Ala. Fishing from a 21 TrX bass boat, a
brand new Triton model, Howell weighed in 15 bass with a total weight of 67
pounds, 8 ounces during the three-day tournament to capture the coveted Classic
crown and the $300,000 first place payout.
Howell, a veteran Triton pro staffer from Springville, Ala., was in 11th place
after two days of Classic competition. He used crankbaits
and bladed jigs on Day Three to catch 29.2 pounds, which vaulted him into first
place in bass fishing's most prestigious event. "My Triton 21 TrX was a major factor in my winning the 2014
Classic," Howell said. He cited the boat's state-of-the-art livewell system as playing a "huge role" in his
victory. "The Classic weigh-ins were held in the Birmingham-Jefferson
Convention Center arena, a long 75-minute drive from the Lake Guntersville boat
launch site. The awesome livewell system of the 21 TrX kept my bass alive and frisky from the minute I caught
them to the minute I put them on the scales. Not having to worry about the
condition of my fish allowed me to focus totally on my fishing during three
grueling days of competition. I'm living proof that you can trust Triton to
keep your fish in top condition for maximum weigh-in points and a live
release."
Howell also raved about the fishability and
performance of the new Triton 21 TrX. "I can't
say enough about the interior layout of this boat! The front casting deck is
enormous, and the rod and tackle storage capacity and arrangement are
absolutely perfect. Besides having giant rod storage boxes on both its port and
starboard sides, the 21 TrX also has a center rod
box, a really cool feature not found on most competing bass boats. The center
rod box allowed me to instantly access the sticks I was using most often
throughout the tournament while both reducing the number of rods I had
underfoot on the front deck and keeping my arsenal of rigged rods tangle-free.
Also, the boat's riding comfort in rough water was unbelievable, and its speed
and handling was nothing short of mind-boggling. Triton has always been the
industry leader in tournament bass boats, but they've set the bar even higher
with their new 21 TrX."
"We're extremely proud that Randy Howell won the 2014 Bassmaster
Classic in a Triton 21 TrX," said Triton founder
Earl Bentz. "Our design and engineering team
relies on feedback from our Pro Staff to make our boats ultra-competitive, and
Randy's Classic victory proves that this approach pays off in a big way."
