NuTech Lures is best known for their innovative jig designs, but they have started to release more and more products, including a new vibrating jig, spoon, spinnerbait and crappie jig. Here is what is new with NuTech.
Double Weedguard?
If you have ever seen a NuTech jig, you will probably recall the two rubber guards instead of the standard weedguard used on most jigs. While it does an excellent job of protecting the hook from weeds, brush and more – it is really there to get better hooksets.
Bo James developed the system in the ‘80s and has been part of NuTech since they began a decade ago.
“What we have created is a better functioning tool,” said James. “The weedless part is a byproduct of a jig that does a better job hooking fish. The separated guide arms were built with the exact placement and angle to hook fish in the roof of the mouth. This prevents the hook from rolling to the side on a hookset like what happens with standard jigs and it does it more on bigger fish. With our jigs, the guide arms rotate the hook right up into the top of the mouth.”
Elite Bladed Jig
The NuTech Elite Bladed jig features a custom 5/0 TroKar hook.
“The hook is beefier than even the Trokar Big Nasty hook. The shape of the head is also key to this bait as it is pointy and has better water flow to the trailer, which gives it more action,” explained Chane Garcia of NuTech.
James echoes Garcia’s comments on the bait’s action.
“It is built on the Elite Grass Jig head and that gives it a much different action than other bladed jigs. It is very erratic and random, it doesn’t track straight and that triggers strikes,” he said.
It is available in 3/8-ounce ½ -ounce, ¾-ounce. and 1-ounce. The heavier sizes allow it to be fished much deeper than most vibrating jigs.
“With the erratic action, it acts almost like a crankbait and with the heavier sizes, you can fish it in deep water where you would normally throw a crankbait,” said James. “The best thing is you can keep it in the strike zone much longer than a crankbait.”
Grass Jig
This jig comes in 3/8-ounce ½ -ounce, ¾-ounce. and 1-ounce and is built with the stout custom 5/0 TroKar hook. While it works in grass, it has become James’ favorite jig for rocks and brush.
“The football head design that is so popular around rocks gets stuck all the time. This design is a great all-around head and comes through rock and brush much better than other jigs,” he said.
It also excels for swimming thanks to the head design.
“The water flow around the head gives it more action for the trailer,” added James.
Zinc Spoon
Also new for NuTech is a jigging spoon that is made of zinc. James says the action is much different than lead and also has a unique sound.
“It has a ringing noise to it as the bait falls and shakes and the spoon hits the split rings. It also twirls around in circles and the darts, it is very unique,” he explained.
The bait is available in ½-ounce and ¾-ounce sizes and three colors; chartreuse, white and chrome. It also features a stout 4X wire treble.
“That hook has no flex in it and helps keep them hooked when they jump and shake the heavy spoon,” said James who has decades of experience fishing spoons. He offers some tips on line to use for the bait. “
I usually use braid, but when the water is less than 50-degrees, I will use monofilament,” he added. “You want some line twist so when the bait is hanging there it will twirl back and forth, that is great when the fish are lethargic.”
Tandem Blade Spinnerbait
NuTech also makes spinnerbaits with the same head design as their jigs. In fact, they are the jigs with a spinnerbait arm attached to the jig with a ferrule. Right now they have a single blade version but the tandem is coming very soon.
They will also be selling a spinnerbait kit that allows for quick change of everything that makes up the spinnerbait; the head, skirt, and blades. Swapping out the heads is simple and allows for customization on the fly. “The blades are connected with a wire snap instead of a split ring to make changing them faster,” added James.
Crappie Jigs
For all of the crappie anglers, NuTech already has a 1/8-ounce jighead in five colors, but they are now adding a 1/16-ounce.= model. “It is a basic round head design but features the same two separated guide arms that are on our bass jigs,” says James.
NuTech is an innovative company with many great designs. Their new additions add to their list of great products that are all designed to hook and land more fish.
