what kind of bait and/ or lures works best..

my Uncle (R.I.P.) left me a few surf rods/reel combos and I wanna put them to use!!

any help/hints/tips would be great!!!

Austin, Most of the shoreline at Del Valle is pretty shallow, Walk to the end of the narrows where the lake makes a bend and fish that whole shoreline as its a shallow flat with a drop off within casting range and the trout stack up there.
