Gents - ask them for their application and management plan. Then ask for results and water quality monitoring. If they do not provide, tell they you'll FOIA them. Ask for a supervisor. I've been working to compile data - to show that much of this program is lacking.

The lake was planted more than 7 years ago. 5 is an awfully specific number...unless you were the one that physically did so, I would beware your source. Plus...the department would not have authorized it. I fish it weekly....yet to see a sturgeon.

Its not a temperature threshold; it has to do with temperature differences. Also - the lake doesn't "physically" turn over. The temperature profile simple becomes consistent throughout the water column.

I spend 10-12 days a year on Oroville. The first thing I noticed in 2013-2014 was the decrease in LM that I was catching. It h...

Delaney - smallmouth and redeye bass are more similar in nature to spotted than largemouth and simply get out competed where they co-occur in CA's foothill lakes (typically). They are also more likely to interbreed - and you end up with a fewer "pure" smallmouth. I do see smallmouth from t...

Thanks for elaborating Gary - I was trying to get at whether anglers were feeling that, based on their observations, whether it was bass foraging on coho or a difference in forage abundance (i.e., lower smelt #s). Given the size of planters - I cannot imagine that many of the bass were eating 6-9&qu...

What does the difference between coho and kings make? If thats your opinion - elaborate on why or provide some evidence. Delaney - overpopulation and dominating the fish community are not one in the same. I know many curse spotted bass - but the fishery would not be what it is w/o them. It is not an...

Gary - for what reason do you think the catalyst is the difference in coho vs kings?

Shad were historically present in Oroville - and I do not know the answer as to why, but presumably the combination of wider fluctuation swings and the growth of the spotted bass population.

This is due to the frequent, extreme fluctuations in lake level. Water column constantly changing, no structure, water clarity, pressure, stress etc. This lake will turn into Nacimiento in no time. Year round suspended fish that won't grow over a couple pounds. Also, too many boats. Wild West Bass ...

Clear lake's water quality problems are MUCH more complex and bigger than spraying weeds. The aquatic macrophytes being sprayed are going to die off eventually at some point regardless making a fish kill an annual possibility even if spraying didn't occur. I seem to recall a series of huge wildfire...

Well...I have to chime on a few things. There is some pure nonsense in this thread and a few good points. Grants are often filtered through multiple channels and the money's finally available for any meaningful programs is minimal. Note: the $96/hr is a loaded rate, not hourly wage. Regardless: just ways to tax, tax, tax. Typical bureaucratic solution.

They will lose more money in tax revenue if fewer guys come stay and fish. Just hurting their own economy. They will never be Napa County. Embrace the resources you have - this would not happen in most states, especially ones with world renowned fisheries.
