Re: Braid with jigs

Not a fan. Get hung up much easier without the stretch and feel too much . Flipping jigs in heavy cover it’s nice to have braid but that’s it for me. I agree with BigBassDaddy. My preference for jigs in deeper water is 12-15# fluorocarbon. With a decent quality rod I still get good feel and minimal...

Re: Access to Oroville

I know for sure that Bidwell and the Spillway ramps are open. Spillway is at perfect level with a very short walk to and from the parking lot and lots of room. Bidwell is way down the ramp with limited parking on the side, then the main parking lot up above. Fishing has been great. Lots of bites and...

Re: So who is having a tackle sale this weekend ?

I was all set to do a big order at TW but when the sale was cancelled I reduced my order considerably. Then I went down to my local Johnson's Bait & Tackle shop and bought nice Tatula SV TW and some other stuff. They gave me a discount and spooled the reel up with line. Our local places need our...

Re: Releaser or Keeper? Which are you?

The concept of "if I let it grow it will get bigger" is untrue, sort of. Every system is different, and "one size doesnt fit all". The biggest problem facing warmwater fisheries managers and quality fisheries these days across the country is stunted populations. This is the dire...

Re: Lake Picachos Info?

I was at El Salto-Picachos for a combo trip in beginning of March last year. I actually had more fun at Picachos. Did not get a lot of topwater, some late in the day targeting shade pockets with poppers. But we would get into big schools of 3-4 pounders. Cast after cast to the same spot. Caught them...

Re: Releaser or Keeper? Which are you?

I generally catch and release. During times when the water temperature is below 70 I will keep some spotted bass that are under 3 pounds. I use that parameter because that is when the fish are the best eating. I keep Spots because they are so prolific and most of our spotted bass lakes like Shasta, ...

In the Yuba-Sutter County Area, Dr Luu the area Health Officer has stated that solo fishing is ok. Fishing charters or fishing in groups is not. It was further clarified that is ok to fish with a member of your immediate household. This was published as a clarification to recent directives that stat...

Fished Oroville on Saturday from a little after 9 until about 1 when I encountered some folks with a broken down boat and towed them back to the ramp. I had 5 good fish, all on Megabass 110 +2 fished very slow with long pauses. Most fish were on points. Fish are footballs, my 5 were 10+ lbs.

Spinning Rod & line for Jerkbaits

I know this will be a topic for opinions like belly buttons. Everybody has one. I have been throwing jerkbaits/ripbaits on bait casting tackle. As I have gotten older, I like the pendulum action that a spinning reel under the rod provides to make a long morning of jerking less of strain on my wrist ...

Re: Truck selection for boat towing

I purchased a 2019 Ram 1500 crew cab 4WD last Fall. Yeah, it's got a Hemi! I use it to tow my 2006 Stratos 285 Pro XL with Evinrude 150 ETEC. It's an 18 foot boat, single axle trailer. The truck tows it very well. It has the tow package which I would make mandatory. I was not looking for 4WD, but th...

No doubt about it, thieves suck! If we are going to travel with our rigs, about all we can do is make stealing more difficult and have good insurance. The baby monitor idea is an excellent one. I fish Lake Oroville quite a bit along with Collins Lake and Camp Far West. In the last month or so I have often caught spotted bass that are spitting up pond smelt or even have a mouth full of them. When this has happens I typically use my electronics to search for bait in the water column. Earlier...

Yes, the fishing has been pretty good. Target bait fish, if you don't see bait on your graph, keep moving. Not saying you won't catch any if you don't see bait, but it definitely improves your chances. We have been catching fish from right on the bank out to about 30 feet. Water has been falling abo...

And, the fishing at Lake Oroville is great right now. Not unusual for a pair of anglers to catch 100 in a day. There will be some dinks in the lot, but a lot of solid 14-16" fish too. They are fat and strong. The recent cold snap slowed things down for reaction and topwater, but small plastics ...
