Great story, we go out of Fort Bragg a couple times a year to get rock cod and Lings for the freezer. If you really want to get into the Lings, go in December. You can also double up on crab.

I was a marshal the last time they went out of discovery park and it was a great experience, although it will be a once in a lifetime experience for me. A few weeks ago I did pretty well with topwater early, on shaded banks on the main lake. I was using a 110 Whopper Plopper, darker color early then lighter as it got brighter. You have to be patient, I was getting a bite every 20-25 minutes, but they were better quality fish up to 17". Biggest ...

Since you stated it has an Optimax Pro XS that makes me think it is a replacement engine, not the original. I agree with the others about having a trusted mechanic give the boat and motor a once over. It is worth the cost of an hours shop labor. Be sure to have them check all the plumbing and wiring...

In previous boats I have used rod organizers. In my current boat I use rod sleeves or gloves, whatever you want to call them and I actually like that much better. I think It makes better use of the space and the rods don't get tangled up.

I was up there a week ago and found the bite pretty slow. We fished in the afternoon. They had recently dropped the water about 2.5 feet and were slowly refilling so the temperature had dropped. Rod, Are you anchoring the pedal in place or leaving it loose to move around? Seems you could just get some longer bolts to put in the front pedal holes with a nut on either side, Then you can move the nuts up and down the bolt until you find the position that is comfortable. If you are anchoring it...

With lower water levels there is less water to support the fishery and competition for food is increased. J...

I have been told by people with decades of experience with concrete: "There are only two kinds of concrete, concrete that is cracked and concrete that is going to crack." (Kinda like outboard motors!) Hopefully they will seal any cracks and closely monitor for the future.
