Not like my opinion matters, but what the previous posters said is dead on correct. I would add though, try not to over complicate things. You are just fishing! Your assumption that the fish will move tight to cover is correct. Getting them to bite is another deal. Larry Hemphill has a great article on this subject on this site.

Re: 04 Mercury Optimax 150 overheating question.
Did you change the water pump impeller housing when you had the impeller replaced? If you did that make sure the seal on top of the housing is at the correct height also. This can cause overheating by drawing air into the water pump. I hope you get it fixed.

Re: What is WATER PRESSURE all about?
This guage will help you tell your motor is getting water pressure while running. Example, weeds could clog your water pickup intakes. If that happened you would notice a drop in water pressure, on some motors you could overheat the engine and cause major damage. Its a good idea to carefully monitor...

You should have 2, 40 amp circuit breakers in your battery compartment that control your trolling motor. They are usually side by side and are probably red in color. You can still use the rubber isolators between the trolling motor and the deck and still have a fender washer underneath your deck. I typically cut the isolators flush with the bottom of the deck, then use your fender washer and nut to complete the install. Try it!
